Cassie Black was thoroughly enjoying her breakfast that Thursday morning, munching on toast and laughing at one of Theo's dry remarks, when the unmistakable shriek of a Howler tore through the Great Hall.
"Ronald Weasley! How dare you steal that car! I am absolutely disgusted. Your father is now facing an inquiry at work, and it is entirely your fault. If you put another toe out of line, we will bring you straight back home. Oh, and Ginny dear, congratulations on making Gryffindor, your father and I are so proud."
A beat of silence followed, before the hall erupted into laughter. Ron looked as if he wanted to sink straight through the stone floor, his ears glowing an unnatural shade of red as he slumped forward, groaning. Even Harry and Hermione, who clearly felt bad for him, couldn't quite stifle their amusement.
Cassie, however, was positively delighted. She leaned back in her seat, propping her boots up on the Slytherin bench with an air of nonchalance. "That," she declared, grinning, "was spectacular. Ron, mate, you should steal cars more often. Breakfasts at Hogwarts have never been this entertaining."
Across from her, Daphne Greengrass stifled a snort while Theo, ever composed, arched a brow. "Reckless behavior, public humiliation, and defying authority?" he mused. "I do believe you've just found your soulmate, Black."
Cassie shot him an unimpressed look. "If you're implying I should be taking dating advice from you, Nott, I'd rather take my chances with a Dementor."
"Oh, come on," Daphne chimed in, her smirk widening. "You and Theo would be a fantastic pair. The chaos alone—"
"Would be enough to make Snape resign," Theo finished, a glint of amusement in his dark eyes.
Cassie scoffed, reaching for a piece of bacon as she rolled her eyes. "I hate you all."
"You love us," Daphne countered sweetly, before exchanging a knowing glance with Theo.
Cassie merely muttered under her breath and turned her attention back to Ron, who was now being comforted by Harry and Hermione. Still smirking, she flicked a bit of toast toward him. "Chin up, Weasley. At least Molly didn't threaten to disown you in front of the entire school. That's a true Black family experience."
Ron groaned again, this time in sheer misery, while the laughter around them continued. Hogwarts, Cassie thought, was never boring—and that was just the way she liked it.
