It happened after practice.

The Slytherin Quidditch team had just finished a grueling training session under Cassie's ruthless command. Flint may have been the one to train her, but she had taken his methods and refined them. The team dragged themselves off the pitch, exhausted, but Cassie stayed behind, double-checking the broom shed and running plays over in her mind.

Theo stayed too.

Unlike the others, he wasn't heading for the showers or complaining about the drills. Instead, he leaned lazily against the stands, watching her with that unreadable look he always wore when he was thinking .

Cassie shot him a glance. "What?"

"Nothing," he said, smirking slightly. "Just wondering if you ever stop thinking about Quidditch."

She scoffed. "Bold of you to assume I think at all."

Theo chuckled, tossing a Quaffle up and catching it effortlessly. "That explains a lot, actually."

Cassie rolled her eyes, stepping closer. "Shouldn't you be off with the others? Complaining about how horribly unfair I am?"

"Oh, we all do that," Theo said, tilting his head. "But I figured I'd stay and annoy you a little more. It's a hobby of mine."

Cassie huffed. "You wish you annoyed me."

Theo's grinned widened. " I know I do."

They were close now. Close enough that Theo could see every detail of her face—the sharp, defined cheekbones, the slight upturn of her nose, the way her full lips curled into that ever-present , taunting smile .

The golden candlelight caught in her hair, waves of honey and gold, making her look almost ethereal—if not for the sharp-edged confidence she carried so effortlessly. She was delicate so delicate that Theo almost wanted to break her. And he would.

She was still talking —"You're insufferable, I swear, if you weren't good at Quidditch, I'd have thrown you off the team ages ago—"—when Theo moved.

No hesitation. No warning. He just leaned in and kissed her .

It was quick—almost experimental—like he was testing the waters, seeing how she'd react.

Cassie froze.

For the first time in her entire life , her brain completely shut down .

Theo pulled back slightly, eyes searching hers. "Huh."

Cassie blinked. "Did you just—?"

Theo chuckled. "You were talking too much."
