Anatoly pauses before looking down. "Reyna, you're bleeding." He says and I follow his gaze to my shoulder.
I'd stopped applying pressure to hold the gun correctly. Besides, it doesn't even hurt. It should because it's bleeding a fair bit but I guess the adrenaline is just temporary blocking the pain.
"Kamari." I say, remembering she's still passed out behind me. I spin around and crouch down beside her to asses her head wound more closely when some of Anatoly's people filter through the room.
We leave the restaurant as quickly as possible. For all we know the group could have back up or allies out for revenge.
As I walk through the upturned restaurant I'm reminded why the only way out for people with my lifestyle is death.
This mess is disastrous.
Nothing about this is right.
Kamari shouldn't have to be involved in this.
"I'll fix it." Anatoly says from beside me.
"Fix what?" I ask.
"Anything I can, starting with the clean up of this place. I know it's important to you."
"Thank you." I say but the words on my lips don't feel like enough. I don't know what I would've done without him today or what could happen if not for him.
The short car ride back to the house is quiet. My body shivers from the aftermath of the cold water as it dries yet the only sign that Anatoly was there is his slightly darker, wet hair.
Anatoly places his jacket over my lap in an attempt to warm me up a little.
My hand is holding onto my shoulder and I have to continously remind myself to not let go as I can't yet feel the pain from my wound.
"Let's get you checked out." Anatoly says as we walk into the house. He tries to guide me in a direction but I stop him.
"I need to look after Kamari, she's hurt." I insist.
"You need to look after yourself, you're hurt." He says. "It's my job to take care of you."
"I'm a doctor I need to help her."
"Always the protector never the protected." He says.
"What?" I say, baffled by his statement.
"You're always helping and protecting everyone else, let someone else help you for a change. Kamari is fine, she's with another doctor and while that other doctor isn't you, they're still a qualified doctor and they're going to help her."
