Ginger
The world was still hazy when he realized he was awake and not drifting in the dark shapeless void of sleep.
Even to him though, it took longer than it should have, like someone had shoved a bunch of cotton into the hole in his head and his thoughts had to push through it to get out.
Rolling over he saw why. The bottle of pills was open on his desk again. Pap only had him take them when it got bad, so he must have had another episode.
That's okay he could piece it together, it would just take time. He laid flat on his back, listening to the groan of the box springs as he turned to allow himself a good view of the wall his bed was up against. It was covered in sticky notes.
They sorta helped. Better then the scattered pages and discarded journals that littered his floor. He couldn't remember to keep up with his journals and papers just piled up into meaningless collections after a while. The short little reminders on the brightly colored sticky notes seemed like they were helping though.
"Papyrus is safe. You are safe"
"Three meals a day 6, 11, 7,"
"Eating too much makes you sick." All stared back at him from little yellow paper squares. Nice reminders but not helpful.
Orange is new. He thought looking past the clusters of white, blue, and pink notes to the little orange ones.
"There's a human cook in the house."
"The human is kind, pap likes her."
"Ginger- protection/cleansing
Nutmeg- protect against evil
Pumpkin- gratitude/generosity."
...Pumpkin.
He remembered, vaguely through his cloudy thoughts. The human on the floor, with thick dark bruises around her throat. Blood painted her mouth as her heart pounded, permitting the room with the scent of fear.
He sat up, a wave of dizziness barely slowing him down as he grabbed for his phone. He wasn't sure where pap was, but he would fill in the gaps. He watched the clock on his phone to help him gauge how much time had passed, his internal clock wasn't the best, but if he paid attention to the clock he would be able to watch the time pass. Letting him know how long it took for Pap-
Nutmeg. He reminded himself.
Letting him know how long it took for Nutmeg to respond. That would give him a good idea of how bad it was.
Nutmeg didn't respond though, he just came right to Ginger's bedroom.
"Brother, how are you feeling?" The taller skeleton greeted as he ducked under the doorframe, always so concerned for him.
"Fine...is Pumpkin okay?"
"She's downstairs. I think she's staying in the basement tonight, I was going to ask her how she was but she looked like she needed rest. When I got your message I thought that she would be alright and you would need me more." Nutmeg responded, making Ginger sag down on his mattress.
"...are...are they gonna send me to the place there keeping Killer and Dust?" He asked, looking down at his large hands. Stars, the human was so tiny, it's a miracle her neck hadn't snapped.
"What? Oh, OH BROTHER, NO! You didn't hurt her. The human was attacked by other humans...three of them against one." He growled out angrily, before shaking his head to clear it. "You didn't hurt anyone, I could just tell that you were very upset."
