The droning of the washer and dryer both running drowned out the sound of your snickering, as you stared down at your phone.
Bella 🐰: girl!!! What do you mean you haven't texted him yet?
Me: That's what I mean. I haven't texted him yet. I'm thinking about it though.
Bella 🐰: stop thinking about it and text him! He is so fun, I promise!
Bella 🐰: he won't leave you disappointed. 😉
Me: idk if I want casual fun though. Maybe I'm looking for something serious.
Bella 🐰: are you?
Me: idk
You messaged, laughing when all she sent you back was a gif of someone throwing down their phone. Jasmine had had the same luck trying to convince you to come out with the two of them and Charm for some "quick fun."
Just because you were considering putting yourself out there again, didn't mean you were gonna jump in all at once. From what you had seen (your wonderful friends kept sending you 'encouraging pictures' of the skeleton working at the strip club) you could just tell messaging Charm would be diving into the deep end.
Hell, maybe that was even what your friends were hoping for.
"Monsters can't get you pregnant unless it's on purpose." Jasmine had said one day, like it was a strong point in favor of you going out with their friend.
"Can't get pregnant by accident with humans either, my tubes were tied after Luca. I can only get pregnant through invitro now." You had shot back confidently. She was quiet for a minute after that though, not sharing in your amusement.
"...Did Luther make you do that?" She eventually asked quietly.
"Oh...well, he didn't actually know. I snuck out to do it. Told him I was getting postnatal surgery to tighten everything back up and he believed me...he- you know, if he found out-probably would have...been mad." You explained, slowly (the first time you had ever said it out loud.) Your ex used to talk about wanting a lot of kids, and in the beginning you were on the same page with him, until you weren't.
Jasmine had nervously changed the subject after that. Saying that Monsters were even better then, because if you ever wanted more then a monster partner could be the one pregnant, no matter what they identified as and even if your tubes were tied. Her nervous switch back to the original topic got you to start thinking, and the more horrified your friends were by stories about your ex the more vindicated you felt.
It had been more of his mind games. He had you convinced that everyone already knew and that they didn't want to help you. Hell, the day you met Aribella, her boyfriend at the time had just broken her jaw (it was a hazard of the job, because if she went to the police, what would she say? We were fighting about my job as a prostitute? Then she would end up in jail longer then he would have.), and he used that as ammo that you were being dramatic.
Your friends were horrified with every new story though, because they were new. No one had any idea how bad it was, except you and him. They knew now though and had offered you any help you might need when he was eventually released if you needed it. You didn't think you would need help, since you had a house to go to outside of the city, but it was nice to hear.
Just one more chain you didn't realize he still had wrapped around your heart, crumbled to dust with a few reassuring words.
You finished up another load of laundry and moved the rest down the assembly line, then you put a timer on your phone. The basement was mostly organized at this point and the backyard was back under control, save for the creepy shed. So, you were left with very little to occupy your time until the laundry was done.
