CH 25: A short lesson in communication (and how to fuck it up)

Awkwardness was something that you guessed people got good at handling with experience and with practice. For example, when you were still going to school and word had spread around the football team that you sucked dick for extra cash, the advertising had been great, but it was awkward walking through the dorms for a little bit. You adapted though.

That's what you expected when you walked into work again, just a little bit of awkwardness that you could push past like grown adults.

You had forgotten that this was the house where Papyrus hadn't even been able to do the grocery shopping without a fight breaking out when you met him. It didn't even start on Monday, on Sunday you had several messages from Sans, Sin, and Saffron when you woke up.

Sans and Saffron were apologizing for the shit show you were about to walk into Monday, with Saffron adding that he didn't expect their conversation to get as heated as it did, and then there was Sin.

Sinnamon-challenge: Heeeeey, just curious have u ever heard of consensual non-consent?

Me: WTF dude, I haven't even had coffee yet.

Sinnamon-challenge: right ssry.

Sinnamon-challenge: Gmorning gorgeous, can I have U for breakfast? ;p >

Me: good talking to you, as always Sin.

You shot back rolling your eyes and putting your phone down for the morning.

At least with their warnings and whatever the hell Sin was up to, you knew that Monday it would be a little weird, what you didn't expect was for it to persist. The first few days when Edge and Red made themselves scarce and didn't talk much were one thing, but by the end of the week when Edge was still avoiding the kitchen you were starting to get concerned.

At the same time Papyrus wasn't able to be in the same room as you without turning orange, and Razz decided to take up the mantle of the worst wingman ever when he wasn't working. He would ask Rus to come and help him with something in whatever room you were cleaning in, only to suddenly remember that he needed to go and get something else and oh by the way if Rus could wait right here for just a second he would be right back. It was the most unsubtle thing you had ever seen.

...If you were being honest it was also a little cute. If only because Rus seemed to have no idea what he was supposed to do when he was left alone with you. You were honestly tempted to give the poor guy a hint, but did you really want to encourage what was, at this point, a very obvious crush?

Saffron, Sans, Ginger, and Nutmeg were the only ones still acting normal around you. Normal being subjective because you didn't see Sans or Saffron very often and whenever you did see Saffron he was grumbling about how immature he thought his roommates were.

By the time Friday rolled around you knew you had to do something. You were seriously considering throwing fairness out and just cooking lasagna to get Edge to stay in the kitchen for more than a second.

"What the hell?" You mused, watching the spaghetti noodles you were cooking boil.

"I wouldn't worry about it, Pumpkin." Ginger answered, even if you had been talking to yourself.

"I'm not exactly worried, but...this is just getting ridiculous isn't it?" You asked, glancing up at the gentle giant. He was crunching on an apple, standing closer to you than usual because Edge wasn't there to take up the extra counter space near the stove. "I mean...if they think I'm a slut or something I wish they would just tell me."

That caused the slightly amused smile Ginger had been wearing to drop a little.

"...It's not about you, Pumpkin...it's about them." He said cryptically.
