The atmosphere in Bulma's house was heavy with an unspoken sorrow that seemed to permeate every room. Goka and Gohan had been staying there for the past couple of days, seeking solace in each other's company as they navigated the aftermath of Vegeta, Raditz, Nappa, and Broly's sudden departure.
Bulma had graciously offered them a room to share, a small oasis of comfort in the storm of emotions that raged within. The grief weighed heavy on all three of them, and the nights were the hardest. Gohan, yearning for a sense of security, had asked his mother to sleep with him. Goka obliged, comforting her son until his breaths became rhythmic with sleep. She then quietly slipped away to go into the backyard, where she would shadow spar until dawn, then she'd find solitude on the living room couch, staring at the ceiling, lost in her thoughts.
The afternoon sunlight filtered through the curtains, casting a subdued glow in the cozy library where Gohan and Bulma were immersed in a collection of books that spanned generations of the Briefs family. Gohan, his young eyes scanning the spines of various volumes, was absorbed in the tales and knowledge within. Bulma, sitting nearby, wore a forced smile, attempting to provide a semblance of normalcy in the midst of the emotional storm.
Meanwhile, in the adjacent living room, Goka lay on the couch, her features relaxed in a rare moment of respite. The lines of worry that etched her face during the waking hours seemed to soften in the embrace of a dream-filled slumber.
The tranquility was disrupted by the arrival of Krillin and Yamcha, longtime friends who had come to offer support during this challenging time. Their hushed conversation faltered when they found Goka on the couch, seemingly oblivious to their presence. They exchanged concerned glances, and Krillin ventured closer, gently nudging Goka's shoulder.
"Goka? Hey, wake up," Krillin said in a hushed tone.
Yamcha chimed in, "You think she's okay?"
Goka stirred but didn't open her eyes, and a sense of unease settled over the room.
Deciding to explore Capsule Corp, Krillin and Yamcha entered the adjoining room, their eyes widening at the sight of the extensive collection of books lining the shelves.
"I never knew you guys had a library," Yamcha remarked, genuinely surprised.
Krillin added, "Yeah, this place is huge. How come we've never seen it before?"
Bulma, a hint of sarcasm in her voice, quipped, "Well, Yamcha, you never stuck around long enough to find out."
Yamcha scratched his head sheepishly, chuckling, "Guess you got me there."
Krillin, ever the peacemaker, changed the subject, "So, why is Goka asleep on the couch? Is she okay?"
Bulma sighed, her mind drifting to the sleeping Goka. "She's been having a hard time. Losing Vegeta hit her pretty hard, and with Raditz and the others gone, it's been tough on all of us."
Curiosity etched on their faces, Krillin and Yamcha took a seat as Bulma began to explain. "Goka... she refuses to sleep in a bed. Every night, she'll lie down with Gohan until he falls asleep. Then, she slips into the backyard to train. Near dawn, she comes back in and crashes on the couch."
Yamcha raised an eyebrow, "She trains in the middle of the night? Sounds intense."
Bulma nodded, "Yeah, she's always been like that. Training helps her cope, I guess."
Gohan, engrossed in a book, seemed lost in his own world. Bulma sighed, continuing, "I get it. I miss Raditz, and with all of them gone, it's tough. But Goka... she's carrying the weight of losing both her brother and her... partner. It's hitting her hard."
