Chapter 21

Amelia's POV

Ryan and I knew exactly what was wrong with Deepika but neither of us had the courage to explain to Louis; but he needed to know about what was going on so I mustered up some courage and spoke up.

"Louis, I'm going to tell you something but you have to promise to keep listening right to the end without interrupting, okay?" I asked Louis who agreed even though he wore a confused look on his face.

I composed myself before speaking because I didn't know exactly how Louis would react when I started explaining Deepika's condition to him; Louis interrupted my chain of thoughts by speaking, "is everything alright Amelia? What do you want to tell me and who is it about?"

"Yeah, I'll just start right from the beginning. A few months ago, around about August last year, Deepika and I were working and we encountered a few of our old friends from our old daytime work place; they invited us to go to a party they were holding and we couldn't decline.
Ryan joined myself and Deepika and we went to this particular party at night and stayed there for pretty late and to be honest, all of us were off our heads but in many different ways.
We went home and the next morning Deepika explained how she didn't remember a single thing after she took a suspicious looking drink from one of our old colleagues who was particularly jealous of Deepika. That's when I realised that Deepika had been drugged so I took her to the doctors to find out what it was; ever since then Deepika had been assigned to Dr Jenko for regular check ups."

I found it hard to go on with the story so Ryan continued on my behalf, "Dr Jenko told us that the drug she was given was so strong and dangerous that Deepika was going to get hooked on it for a while and that the effect would be quite different each time.
The doctor was right because when we got home, she demanded for more of the drug, which was Rohypnol, and her personality began to immediately change due a small dose, overnight. Deepika used to change moods like every 10 minutes except when it came to Lucas because somehow her motherly instincts overpowered the drug; however, to keep things safe for Lucas, Amelia told me to take him down to Mr and Mrs Desai and to say that he wants to stay with his grandparents for a few weeks but his mum is too busy at work.
With Lucas away, Deepika lost hold of herself and used to spend hours on end out of the house at parties and anywhere that could supply the drug.
She would come home at 2-4am every single day and sometimes after an entire weekend and then one day, she came home in the morning and said that she was done with everything."

Louis gasped and the exact thought that came into my mind at that time, entered Louis's mind but I continued so I could clear up the misunderstanding.

"Just like you, Louis, I thought that Deepika wanted to bump herself off but she explained that she wanted some actual help; so we went back down to Dr Jenko who helped Deepika to sort herself out.
Ryan brought Lucas back from Doncaster, especially because Halloween was really close, and whilst Deepika was still being regularly monitored we went to a Halloween party for little kids so that Lucas could have a good time.
Later than night, Lucas went home with me because he was really tired and Ryan escorted Deepika to the adults party where Deepika met your driver, Sam. They were all having a blast and Deepika somehow backtracked on her achievements and ended up taking the same drug again but this time with a few other ones as well.
By then she had taken ecstasy, cocaine, weed and Rohypnol, the main drug that she had previously got hooked on. For some reason, even though she was totally out of her head, she kept within her limits and managed to keep her honour intact and that really did surprise me because I thought that she would be high enough to be up for anything.
Anyway, someone called the police whilst everybody was too high to notice and everybody who was still at the party was arrested and taken to holding cells at the police station. Ryan managed to get in touch with me because he wasn't exactly in the house when the police came and we contacted Dr Jenko, even though it was about 2am, and he came down to the police station with a lawyer who had been briefed on the way to the station.
Deepika's bail was arranged and she was later sentenced to 3 months community service and rehabilitation sessions with Dr Jenko for using and abusing illegal drugs; she would've got jailed if the doctor didn't have a record of her being drugged which got her hooked on Rohypnol.
Her community service sentence was completed by the end of January and she has been fully restored to normal life, but the long term effects of the drug have still to wear off and the doctor says that it will still take a long time due to the fact that the drug itself is quite deadly."
