"Hi." I said as I got closer.
"This is my daughter, Mavis." Mom introduced me to our new neighbor. "Mavis, this is Deeyola Sanchez. Her family moved into that house today." She pointed to the house just opposite to ours.Deeyola. That's such an extraordinary yet lovely name.
"Hi Mavis." She gave me a warm smile and extended her hand.
"Hi." I shook her hand. She seemed to be 18 or 19. She had eyes the exact colour of an emerald that looked perfect with her short black hair. She had a pleasant smile on her face.
"You have a lovely name." I said. I don't think I would have said this if it was someone else.
"Aw, thank you kid!" She pulled my cheeks.Kid? I'm 16 years old..
"I'll go now. It was nice meeting you." Deeyola told my mom.
"You're not coming in?" I blurted. "I mean like if you're not busy or anything."You're talking too much today Mavis.
"I suppose I could stay for a while!" She exclaimed in a voice full of happiness. She is shooting out rainbows now. "If you don't mind that is." She turned to my mom.
"Oh don't be silly. Come in." My mom opened the door.
"Woah." She murmured walking in. "You've got a wonderful house!"
"Come see my room." I pulled her upstairs eager to show it to her.You just met her for God's sake. Stop pulling her around.
Hey, she doesn't even seem to mind. I opened the door to my room and let her in. Besides my parents she would be the first one to see it.
I'd spent four days trying to make it look perfect and I was quite proud of it even if that sounds silly. It took me a lot of Tumblr to put it together."Oh my God." She looked around with her eyes wide open and her lips slightly parted. "This is amazing."
My room consisted of a queen sized bed placed opposite to the window. A pink rug lay beside it. A mannequin stood beside my dressing table. Fairy lights delicately hung from the ceiling. Purple curtains framed the window. Loads of pictures decorated the wall beside my bed. And then there was my shelf that held lots and lots of books. A huge poster of the Eiffel Tower covered the wall next to it.
Deeyola walked over to the book shelf.
"You like to read?" She inquired.
"I love to read." I answered.
"You've got a lovely collection Mavis." She ran her fingers along the neatly stacked books. "Hey, this is one of my favourites." She pulled out my copy of The Time Keeper.
My eyes lit up. Most people labelled me as boring because my idea of fun was reading.
"You like to read too?" I asked.
"Reading is my life. I don't understand how people survive without books." She said gently placing the book back in it's place. She's just like me!
We spent the next two hours talking about Shakespeare and Charles Dickens and JK Rowling and John Green and so many more great authors. From classics to teen fiction to romantic comedies, Deeyola had read them all.
If there's one thing I could talk about all day, it was books. And that's one of the reasons I liked Deeyola already."It's been two hours already. I should get going." Deeyola checked her phone. "You're fun to be with kid."
Kid..
"I'm 16 years old."
"And I'm 20."Wait, what?
"You're not 20." I said not quite believing her. She looked younger.
"Oh yes I am." She laughed. "And you're a tiny baby."
I stuck my tongue out at her because that's real mature, right?
Deeyola was about to leave when there was a knock on the door.
"Come in." I yelled, not wanting to get off the bed.
Troye's head popped in and I jumped off the bed straightening my clothes and running my hands through my hair.
"Hi Mavis." He said, smiling as usual.
"H-Hi"Not again.
My name sounds so good when he says it. Heck, anything sounds good when he speaks.
You need help.
I glanced at Deeyola who had a smug smile on her face as she wiggled her eyebrows at me.
Was I that obvious?
Deeyola walked up to him. "Hi! I'm Deeyola. Mavis' new neighbour." She turned to me. "You didn't tell me you had a boyfriend, Mavis."
Oh no.
Somebody please, please take me away from here.
