Here I was finally. More than two thousand miles away from Chicago, in San Francisco. I could tell that my parents were already head over heels in love with the place. I wouldn't lie either. It was breathtaking, but nothing can be compared to the place I still call home. Chicago.
Our new house was absolutely huge. You could almost call it a mansion. It had gleaming wood floors and clean white walls. Opposite the main door there was a large sitting area. There were high arched windows which looked beautiful as they filtered the daylight. A huge banister curved gracefully towards the second floor. The kitchen wasn't that big, but it was okay for a small family like us. The second floor had three bedrooms and three baths out of which two were attached to the bedrooms. I could tell that my parents were smiling at me as I looked around in awe.
"This is great, isn't it?" My mom beamed.
Maybe. But I'd still choose Chicago over this fancy place any day." I said.
To be honest the place was wonderful, but that didn't mean I wasn't mad at them anymore.
My mom rolled her eyes at me and continued to admire the house.
"We're going to be very happy here Mavis. You wait and see." my dad said with a huge smile plastered on his face.

My first day of school was on Monday, meaning I had two days to set my room before I got busy with loads and loads of homework. Fun! Not.
I loved my old room in Chicago, but it was probably nothing compared to my new one. The door opened up to a spacious room. The walls were a pearly white along with the ceiling. The huge window looked beyond amazing as it filled my room with sunlight. I also had a walk in closet and a whole bathroom to myself. I couldn't wait to get it all set. What I could wait for, was the first day at school.
***
I woke up in the morning with nervous thoughts. The dreadful day had finally arrived. Today would be my first day of school. I looked at my phone. 7:40 am.
Shit. School starts in 20 minutes. Im going to be late on my first day? Way to go Mavis!
I decided to wear a blue tank top with grey skinny jeans and Converse. I put a light coat of lip gloss and mascara. Unfortunately there was hardly time to do my hair so I pulled it into a ponytail, my dark auburn bangs falling on my face. I refused to look bad on my first day even though I absolutely had no time, because sadly I wasn't one of those girls who were naturally pretty. I had pale skin, and my dark brown eyes weren't very appealing. I rushed down the stairs, grabbed an apple and shot out of the main door. I didn't even bother to start an argument with mom for not waking me up.
My school was at a walk able distance from home. I'd seen it on our way home from the airport. Silver Oaks High. I would probably be on time if I ran. My heart pounded as my feet raced on the uneven ground. It took me 7 minutes. I rushed inside and looked around, unsure of where the Principal's office was.
"Hi. I'm new here. Could you please show me the way to the Principal's office?" I asked a girl with blonde hair. Her eyes were the bluest I had ever seen.
"Hey. You must be in Year 10. Mrs. Noah told us about you coming. I'm Allison Brooke. You must be Mavis Anderson." she said in a friendly voice.
"That's me." I smiled.
"I was going to the principal's office as well. C'mon." she said, gesturing me to follow her.
***
The principal, Mrs. Smith was a very nice lady. She was a woman probably in her forties. Her black hair was pulled into a neat bun. She had lovely green eyes and a pleasant smile. I had expected her to be the total opposite, maybe like Miss Trunchbull.
You're so stupid, Mavis.
"We have most of our classes together. Our first period is English. Let's go see where your locker is first." Allison said, pulling me towards the lockers.
I hadn't bothered to look around at first because I was in a hurry. Now that I noticed, the school was quite huge. I liked the colours at once. Silver and white.
Please let me get a Silver locker. Gosh Mavis, you're such a baby.
"That's great. Your's is two lockers away from mine. This one."
Yes! It's silver!
"Thank you so much for all the help." I said putting the books that I didn't need in the locker.
"You're welcome. Now hurry. You don't want to miss English. Mrs. Noah is absolutely amazing. You'll love her." she said as she grabbed my arm and ran towards the classrooms. "I'll give you a tour of the whole school in the third period, which is free for both of us."
I couldn't help but smile. I was glad I met Allison. I had made a friend without even trying. Maybe school won't be so bad after all.
