2 years ago, Unity Day Sage was 17 at the time and both her parents had just died a few months ago. So she was staying with her dad's best friend and his family, the Eden.
In that short time Sage had been staying with the Eden family, she had realized that their mother treated her children like shit. She would abuse them and when her husband, Aaron tried to confront her about it, she would gaslight him.
One night it was different, Mrs Eden came home before the Unity Day ceremony. She hit her son, Cosmo for no reason. Then she stormed over to her daughter and Cosmo's twin, Nova and beat her badly.
So Sage got involved. She threw Mrs Eden on the ground she got up and grabbed a knife. "I let my husband let you in our family, and this is how you treat me?" She said.
The kids hid behind the red headed teen.
"You have no right to hit your children when they've done nothing wrong." She told Mrs Willow.
"I will do whatever I want. They are my kids!" She yelled, before charging at Sage with the knife. She pivoted so she only cut her shoulder. Then she knocked her attacker on the ground. Mrs Eden tripped her and got on top of her. She was trying to stab her but Sage grabbed the knife and somehow it ended up impailing her attacker. The Eden mother bleed out.
The Eden twins were crying. Sage rushed over and comforted them.
"Kids, I gotta go. I just killed someone, and with my dad's history, they won't believe me." She told them.
"But how? You can't just hide. They'll find you, wherever you go on the ark." Nova stated.
"Then I'm gonna have to leave the ark." Sage said.
"How?" Cosmo asked.
"I have a plan, okay?" Sage put one of her hand on both their cheeks. "Here's what I need you to do. I need you to get help in 2 minutes after I leave. Tell them exactly what happened. Don't lie, that will only make things worst. Tell them, that I killed her because I was protecting you. Now if they believe it or not, that's fine. But I'm sure they'll believe it because of the mark she left on both of you."
"But if we tell you the truth, you'll go to the box and get floated in 2 years." Nova stated.
"No, because I'm getting off the ark." She told them.
"How?" Nova asked concerned.
"My mom, she left me a pod she had been working on. It was just for scouting the Earth for anything abnormal, but my mom rigged it so it could get me to earth." Sage stated.
"But it's filled with radiation. You'll probably be as good as dead the second those doors open." Cosmo said.
"I have to try." Sage hugged the boy, then the girl. "I love you both. Remember what I told you, okay." She stood up and walked out as both kids begged her not to go.
