Payback...

Fans filed into the PPG Paints Arena in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. The Payback premium live event was minutes away from starting as the pre-show panel gave their final predictions for the show's matches.

There were huge title matches on the card that had the crowd buzzing before the show even began. Along with other matches that had become personal between the superstars like Becky Lynch versus Trish Stratus in a steel cage match and LA Knight versus The Miz.

The returning John Cena would also serve as the host of Payback. To top it off, the pre-show revealed Cena would be the special guest referee for the LA Knight and Miz match.

When it hit the top of the hour, the show began. Fans in the arena and all others watching from home viewed the WWE's Then, Now, Forever, Together introduction before the show's opening video package played.

As the package came to an end, it left the PPG Paints Arena even more hyped for the show. A large amount of pyro went off on the stage to signal the start of the event. From the commentary table, Michael Cole welcomed the WWE Universe watching on Peacock.

"Thank you, for spending part of your Labor Day holiday with us tonight. We are sold out at the PPG Paints Arena in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. 14,584 WWE fans are here on a night where there will be retribution, revenge, retaliation, and payback!"

Cole's commentary partner for the PLE, Corey Graves, continued after him.

"We are kicking the night off with the World Heavyweight Championship in a match that has become very personal between champion and challenger."

Graves's introduction segued into the promo package for the World Heavyweight Championship match.

It ended and Ricochet's music hit, drawing a big pop from the fans. The challenger made his way to the ring as Cole spoke again.

"Back to what you mentioned about this match becoming personal, Corey. It pretty much sums up all of Jordan Pierce's rivalries."

"Say what you want Cole. Pierce's methods are effective." Graves responded.

Ricochet finished posing on the turnbuckles. His theme faded out to be replaced by Jordan Pierce's music moments later. Smoke covered the stage and purple light shined in the arena.

The World Heavyweight Champion emerged from the smoke with a bandana around his face. He was alone. With all of the Judgment Day busy for the night, Pierce would have no help against Ricochet.

The challenger looked to take advantage.

"Now this is the first of two championship matches for Jordan Pierce tonight." Cole said as Pierce walked to the ring. "It's going to be interesting to see how he approaches this first match against Ricochet."
