Christmas had come quickly, far too quickly, and after having everyone over for Thanksgiving, Maya's side, Grandpa Jacob included, and Carina's side, except her father, they had decided that they wanted to celebrate on the evening of the twenty-fourth, just the three of them. It was Jordan's first Christmas, and they were two days away from her fifth month.
The Italian's father would be coming again in January and he would meet his granddaughter then, but for the moment, Carina didn't want to think about him. They'd managed to argue several months ago because she hadn't wanted to fly Jordan from Seattle to Catania, even though she'd explained to him that it was a long flight and that they'd need the stroller, the cot, an astronomical amount of clothes, her cosy, but he could only see what he wanted. «She didn't want to make any effort.»
But this Christmas was more about the three of them and Ford. The twenty-fourth and the twenty-fifth just the four of them.
Jordan's Christmas bauble stood proudly on the tree next to Charlie's, between Maya's and Carina's.
There were also three stockings hanging by the fireplace in the living room, and the house smelled of Christmas spices every day, not because the Italian baked cakes every day, although she did some, but because she'd found a candle that evoked that special holiday smell. They wanted Jordan to experience Christmas in a loving family from an early age, and they wanted all the clichés, right down to the permanent smell of Christmas cookies.
On the evening of the twenty-fourth, they had done something rather classic ; a meal in matching pajamas. Even Ford had his own little costume. This was followed by a Christmas movie for the three of them, at least for Maya and Carina, as the little one had ended up falling asleep in the blonde's arms after her bottle. They tried to alternate breast and bottle feeding as much as possible. For the moment, only the Italian's milk, no industrial milk.
After the films, they went to bed at a rather late hour. To bed. At least in their bed. Carina had finally lost her pregnancy weight and, despite the fact that her wife had made her feel comfortable all along, she felt much more desirable in that body.
The next morning, the Italian was awakened by Jordan's crying. Strangely enough, Maya was still asleep. Which wasn't like her.
The brunette got up, put on her pyjamas and went to look for Jordan. She'd heard Maya get up, going straight into the living room, so she'd set off in the direction of the living room to join her.
- "oh my goooood!" said the Italian as she reached the living room.
She had seen her wife with her phone, filming her. She couldn't hide her tears and Maya turned the lens towards her.
-"You see baby, every year your mamma has the same reaction, she loves to see that Santa Claus has come and gone...". She had turned the camera around and filmed, snowy footprints were all over the living room from the fireplace, an almost finished glass of milk and crumbs from little Christmas cookies were near the tree on a little table, lots of presents were under the tree and in their stocking.
Carina couldn't stop her tears from flowing.- "Guarda Zita, Babbo Natale è arrivato e se n'è andato." [Look Zita, Santa Claus has come].
The Italian looked lovingly at her wife and gave her a slight nod. One that meant everything at once.
Despite the camera rolling, the brunette had approached her wife, slipped her hand up the back of her neck and come to kiss her.
"I love you so much my baby love" she had whispered against her lips, just before the kiss.
-"Merry Christmas my wife" replied Maya after the kiss. She too was moved by her wife's reaction.
Indeed, Carina had no idea that Maya had gotten up in the middle of the night to do all this staging.
