-"Madam Olympic champion!"

- "that's me!" Maya proudly replied to her best friend.

-"I missed you too much!" she said, coming over to hug the blonde.

-"I missed you too!"

- "It doesn't look like it. You came back, you go back to LA, you came back, you hole up at home and you leave again, to go to your grandmother's... What about me?"

-"Excuse me after London... After LA, I just needed a week's sleep".

- "well okay, I understand. So what exactly is this sprain story? Because between you and me, I didn't buy the story about the stairs in the lobby".

- "do you want us to call the Ritz reception?"

-"Oh madame, you want us to call the Ritz reception... It's like people who have iPhones... They don't have a cell phone, they have an iPhone... You're not going to a hotel, you're going to the Ritz, dear" replied Andy in her English high-class voice.

-"I know, I know, I know, but that's the least we could do for the Olympic gold medallist, isn't it?" She said, getting into her high-class too.

-"Don't change the subject... Admit it... Was there a girl involved?"

- "well... Okay, you know me too well. I was chasing one of the women on the French relay team".

- "which one?"

-"Johanna Danois"

- "okay that sounds real... Well it's not like I could see who she was, but you convinced me"

- "and so it's true about the stairs, I really did miss a step. What about your interview?"

- "wow, that captain's really hot!"

- "I'm sure Ryan will be thrilled to hear that!"

- "I told my best friend, not his... So otherwise it went really well, he's sexy but he's strict, he scared me a bit anyway. I have a feeling we're not going to have any laughs with him".

-"'on' so you're taken?!" She said with a big smile.

-"He told me that I hadn't applied and that your application had arrived late... But that they 'couldn't refuse an Olympic champion and her best friend, the daughter of a captain, who was already a volunteer firefighter'... But I do have the feeling that we're going to have to prove ourselves more than the others".

- "my dear, we're women, we're going to have to prove ourselves more than the others, that's for sure!"

- "that's encouraging... And you, can you start again with your ankle?"

-"At first I couldn't do the physical exercises, but after almost two years as a volunteer firefighter for your father, I think we're pretty much set... Some of our comrades may never have set foot in an RIG or a fire station, who knows".

-"seen from this angle..."

Andy and Maya had then sent their resignation letters from Seattle University, the blonde's pinned to a check for the equivalent of her tuition for the two years completed and two years still to come, with a suggestion, redo the Track and Field track.

The Olympic champion had turned in her studio and started looking at making her first investment once out of the academy. Of course, in her mind it would be a two-bedroom apartment. For now, for her and Andy, and in the long term, why not a room for a little Charlie or Giulietta?

So, on September 3rd, Maya and Andy entered the academy for fifteen and a half weeks of training. Despite almost two years as a volunteer firefighter, they were obliged to go through this training, to validate their skills. It was either school for almost four months, or another year and three months as a volunteer firefighter.
So of course they went from volunteer firefighter to recruit. But in four months' time, they would officially be firefighters, rookies, rookies, but firefighters nonetheless, without the 'volunteer', and the salary was a real one too.
