Pursuing the conjured wooden dragons unleashed by the clone of Upper Moon Four was no minor feat.
(Y/n)'s energy reserves were rapidly depleting, particularly after exerting herself in a grueling battle with a hoard of fishpot demons and ensuring the safety of swordsmiths back in the village. Now, thrust into the fray against the formidable Upper Kizuki, she was on the brink of fatigue.
Exhaustion clung to the love Hashira, her energy was waning.
In a turn of events, (Y/n) managed to unlock the latent power of her demon slayer mark at the critical moment, granting her the surge of strength necessary to counter the demon's relentless onslaught as she fought desperately to buy time for her comrades to locate and sever the true head of the main body of the upper kizuki.
The battle grew increasingly fierce, pushing her further into the depths of the forest where her fellow Slayers pursued the true body of the demon. Yet she wielded her sword with an elegant ferocity, gracefully decapitating each conjured dragon, her movements mirroring the poise and finesse of a ballerina.
With each wooden dragon that emerged, (Y/n) met them with an elegant cut, severing their necks with the poise and precision, dancing through each deadly attack.
The dance of her blade was as much a testament to her desperate struggle for survival.
"Just die already!" (Y/n) cried out as she tried to perform her second breathing form and cut a dragon with a singular, long-winding swing.
Unfortunately, no matter how hard she tried, her fatigue was catching up to her and her swing lacked the power to fully penetrate the dragon's neck, causing it to retreat a few meters away without taking any further damage.
"I can't take it anymore!" She shrieked, feeling her arms failing her midair. "I'm so sorry guys. I'm about to be killed!" Another dragon lunged from behind, its gaping maw ready to devour her, and she could only watch as it closed in on her whole body.
The wooden walls of the dragon's throat were closing painfully close to her, her body was being crushed at impossible angles even for someone with her flexibility.
The sound of bones cracking filled the tight space along with her whimpers of pain.
She gasped as she felt her ribs breaking and she wondered if she would die first by inner bleeding or lack of oxygen.
Even more tears escaped her eyes, her body too numb to feel another thing.
In those last moments of her life, numerous memories flashed in front of her eyes.
She didn't want to die like this.
She didn't want to leave her family like this.
She didn't want to die before confessing her feelings to Obanai.
She didn't want to die without seeing and hugging her comrades one last time.
She didn't want to die without knowing if Tanjiro and his sister along with Shinaguzawa's brother, defeated the demon.
She didn't want to die yet.
But now it was too late. Blood filled her esophagus from her crushed internal organs, causing gagging sounds to escape her lips.
This was the end.
The only thing she could do was hope. Hope for a chance at a new life. A life where they could all find happiness. Somewhere no demon's could harm them. She wished for a chance to be reborn again as a human and build her own family.
But that wish wouldn't come true. At least not for a long, long time.
