Crystal
"I had so much fun last night." I said grabbing my coffee out of Devale's hand.
"I can't believe you came into work. Aren't you hungover?" He asked me.
"No I'm okay. I didn't drink too much." I said shaking my head. "Plus, Denise wanted to come and see my big CEO office. She's basking in my chair right now." I said laughing.
After all the drama subsided, we were all able to go out and end our night with dinner and little light clubbing. Hanging out with Denise and Brian really made Devale and I realize how lucky we are. They're not even acting like a divorced couple, now they're acting like friends. I guess they have to since they a child together and that's a forever thing.
"Alright I have to do CEO things but I will see you tonight at home." I said putting my hand Devale's whitecoat.
He nodded and pecked my lips. "I love you." He said.
"I love you more."
"Now you know I love your more." Devale debated.
"I could do this all day-"
"Please get a room." Zena said approaching us. "Here, I have something for you." She said handing me a small white envelope.
I looked at Devale and he shrugged before walking away. I couldn't believe he left me alone to deal with this bitch by myself. Luckily, she came correct, not on bullshit.
"What is this?" I still looking at Devale from afar.
"It's a just-- Girl just open the damn envelope." She said rolling her eyes. "Shit. I'm trying to be nice." She mumbled.
I opened the envelope and saw a card inside. I pulled it out and it was a card. I'm assume from when I was sick. She was probably contemplating giving it to me. Inside of it was a gift card to one of my favorite steakhouses here in Chicago.
"Oh wow, thanks Zena." I said looking at the card.
"I just wanna say I'm glad you're feeling better. I remember we used to go there together all the time, maybe you and your husband can go." She suggested smiling.
I was a little hesitant with her gesture and I'm sure it was written over my face. Zena started chuckling and shaking her head.
"Crystal, it's not a trick. I'm really glad you're back. I might not like you all the time but I think that's gone far far away because I don't want anything you have anymore." She said shrugging.
I look down and suck my teeth. "Zena, I know you and Devale have history--"
"I'm getting married next week Crystal." She announced completely blindsiding me.
"M-married? To who?" I ask becoming baffled. "Morris?" I ask going with my first guess.
"Girl hell no. Don't ever offend me like that." She said stepping back.
"Oh thank God." I said touching my chest. "Do I know him?" I ask.
"Yeah you know him, he's over there." She said pointing to the nurses station.
I looked past her and saw Dr. Babbs staring at her with those dreamy, "I love you eyes" you give to someone special.
"You're marrying Durrell?" I ask crossing my arms. "You just met him." I remind her.
"Life is too short and when a man speaks up and says he wants to start a life with you, you should take it. Plus, six months is a decent amount of time." She said shrugging.
