Devale
"Here drink this," I said handing Crystal a cup of water.
"Babe I'm not thirsty." She argued. "Where the hell are my kids?" She asked raising her voice a little bit.
We were sitting in a police station, waiting for someone to tell us something. I didn't care if it was good or bad at this point, I just want something to go off of.
When I went outside, Terrell wasn't in the car and DJ's backpack was sitting on the ground. It was almost like it fell off, all his stuff was spilled out. I started panicking and before I knew it, we were here at a police station.
"Sorry that took so long, my boss is a jack ass." A younger cop said walking up to us.
"What'd he say?" I ask standing up.
"We put out missing person's alert and have cops patrolling the area where they were taken."
"So what now?" Crystal ask with a shaky voice.
"You go home and wait, see if anyone suspicious comes by. I'm gonna do everything I can to make sure the city is on this." The lady said.
I sighed and grabbed Crystal's hand. "Thank you, officer--"
"Detective," She corrected. "Detective Sasha Wilson."
"Thank you, Detective Wilson." I said standing up.
Crystal stood up and followed me out the police station. The entire drive home was quiet and even though it was bright outside, it felt like it should've been dark and rainy.
"Thank you Ms. Jefferey, for watching Bella. I appreciate it." Crystal said to our elderly next door neighbor.
"Oh she's a doll!" Ms. Jefferey said. "Did they tell you guys anything?" She asked me.
Crystal and I both shook our heads.
"No but they're gonna have some cops around here and some other places looking."
"This whole situation is scary." Ms. Jefferey said. "Well I'm praying for you guys." She said as I walked her out.
"Thank you, we need it." I tell her as I let her out the house.
When she was gone I closed the door. I walked back to the living room and Crystal was sitting on the couch holding Bella close to her chest and rocking back and forth.
"Babe is everything is going to be okay." I said kneeling next to her.
I couldn't even say that with a straight face. But, I didn't want to start crying in front of Crystal, then she'd start crying and we'd be a mess.
"We should've been watching him." Crystal said shaking her head. "How didn't we hear the door open, they didn't scream or anything? That's weird." She said softly.
"You need to eat something." I said watching her hands tremble.
"I'm fin-"
"Shh." I said standing up adn walking to the kitchen.
Knock. Knock. Knock.
"I got it!" I announced. "Who is it?" I ask before opening the door.
"Robert,"
I squinted and opened the door.
"What's going on?" I ask looking at the realtor I rented Rachel's place through.
Robert helped me get all the places I've had since moving to Chicago. We're something like friends, but not for real.
"Hey I came to give this back to you." He said handing me envelope.
