Fifteen: Flirting & Confessing 101

Luke.

He stole a fry from Michael's plate as he leaned his chin in his free hand, absent-mindedly listening to his friend ramble on about everything and nothing.

Both boys were sat at the food court of the local mall, as Luke wanted to buy a few more things from England as souvenirs, and Michael wanted to scope out another new fling before they left. And according to the red haired boy, the mall was the best place for all of that.

But before they had a chance to head to the shops, Michael claimed he hadn't eaten for days, and dragged Luke to where they were now.

Michael was talking his ear off, and Luke normally joined in, but lately his mind was somewhere else.

In about a month or so, the first semester would be over, and he would fly back home. His mum was missing him too much now, badgering him with texts and calls, and then Luke would get a good earful for missing the last calls when he did pick one of them up.

His childhood best friend back home, Calum, had also arranged to Skype with him today after the black haired boy had returned from his two week long torture vacation from a desolate island with no wi-fi and phone signal, saying he had big news. And so did Luke. Maybe.

Well if big news counted landing a main role in your foreign drama exchange school's play, and garnering a slowly growing crush on the Drama club president.

Luke will just opt for leaving the latter for now, because he wouldn't hear the end of it.

Thr blonde still had no idea what to do, and he felt frustrated. It wasn't some rocket science (but sure seemed like it) and it wasn't like he was in third grade, having a crush for the first time. He is seventeen now, and just kind of likes to admire Louis Tomlinson's eyes and cheekbones and the way he laughs and his confidence and stupidly cute comebacks and how he gets flustered only when Luke sasses him. It's oddly satisfying, knowing he too can make Louis blush.

But Louis Tomlinson won't even see Luke that way, he's not even close to his type and that's why he needs to get rid of this stupid and petty crush. And besides, Luke only has a month left here before he gets back and finishes his junior year back home with the extra credits he gained in this school.

"Hey. Isn't that Gemma's brother?" Michael poked him, and Luke snapped out of his usual thoughts, following Michael's gaze to Harry Styles, who was shuffling with his bag and jacket, entering the YSL shop.

"Uh, yeah," Luke said, pulling back his plate of fries which Michael unconsciously snatched back.

The green eyed boy smiled devilishly. "C'mon Lucifer. Up you go. I need to window shop a little, burn off these fries," Michael said, pushing back his chair and stretching.

"Mike," Luke warned, and the boy in question chuckled.

"What?! C'mon!" He urged, dragging a jaded Luke with him, and into the shop Harry had went into.

And apparently Harry worked there as he was now in uniform, manning the cash register. He looked pretty good, even in a uniform, and of course Michael noticed that, and um, not a good idea. Not Louis' best friend. Nope.

Harry saw them, and his eyes brightened with recognition. "Hey! Luke, right? Ashton's friend and Louis' drama partner?"

"Michael. Luke's other friend," Michael said smoothly before Luke could open his mouth, lending a hand to shake which Harry accepted with a friendly smile.

"Yeah this is Mike and yeah I'm Ashton's friend and Louis' um... partner," Luke said awkwardly, playing with his bracelets.

"Hey. So you've hung out with Ash yeah? And your pal Louis and my Lukey have a weird thing going on so," Michael said, earning a sharp jab in the ribs from Luke which he winced at and pretended to ignore. "So, why don't we all hang out together?"

"Yeah, that'd be amazing!" Harry said, smirking to himself. "Lou's gonna kill me," he added, making both boys laugh as Luke raised an eyebrow, not deciding to delve into it much. Harry could have meant anything.

"That'd be awesome though. I look forward to hanging out with you, Harry," Michael said, leaning against the counter, and Harry sighed.

"Well I won't flatter myself but the on off chance that you're really flirting with me, I'd tell you that I'm seeing someone and yeah, if you guys don't wanna buy anything..." Harry crossed his arms, and Michael whistled.

"Ooh sassy," he said under his breath, and Luke rolled his eyes.

Bidding Harry goodbye, the boys made their way out the store and Luke slapped Michael upside the head.

"Ow! What gives?"

"Tone it down a little, casanova!"

Michael frowned, then a shit eating grin appeared on his face. "What? Worried I'd make a bad impression on your boyfriend's best friend?" Michael cooed, and Luke just elbowed him.

"He's not m' boyfriend."

"And why the fuck not?"

"Because!"

"Because?"

"Well because he's him! He's so cool--"

"Oh for fuck's sake Luke, cut the whole he's hot and I'm not speech! You're pretty amazing my friend, and if you're pining over that Louis idiot so much, make a fucking move on him!" Michael jabbed at Luke's chest, then threw his hands up when Luke scoffed.

He then pulled Luke close by the shoulders, locking their gaze. "Listen to me. One month or one week, forget that shit. You're blabbing about Louis every chance you find, doesn't take a genius to figure out it's a bit more than a itty bitty crush," Mike snorted.

"So what do I do?" Luke groaned into Michael's shoulder, finally accepting it, who patted his quiff comically.

"There there. Just pull him into a janitor's closet and show him your wild side. Or plan B, freaking talk to him. You guys met at that spooky house once or twice yeah? Talk then. Tell the bastard how you feel, straight up."

"What if I don't want to?"

Michael gave him an unamused look. "It's better if you do. I hate seeing you miserable, it's so annoying having to baby you all the time."

Luke shrugged. "But I like how we are now. Bantering and stuff--"

"And how the hell would you telling him he's your boo thang change that?" Mike countered.

"Don't say that again and how will it not change that?" Luke asked incredulously.

"Just. Take my word for it. Tell the cocky bastard how you feel. Worst case scenario, just tolerate the awkward confrontations for a month and book it out of here, simple," Michael shrugged, slapping the hood of the rental car.

"Wow Mike. When did you actually start giving useful advice?" Luke gasped.

"You might actually put Calum out of business as my trusty advisor," Luke teased, and Michael did a mini cheer.

"Heck yeah. Need to beat that smug bastard at something."

Luke raised an amused eyebrow, turning to his friend in the driver's seat, who has starting up the car. "Why do you hate everyone?"

"I don't hate you Lukey, much. And Calum... well you know why."

"You guys should seriously date already! All this hate/hate with a side of love, with me caught in the middle," Luke mock sighed, shooting a side smirk to Michael who scoffed loudly.

"Another word out of you and I'm breaking your pretty nose."
