Six: Protective.-----
Louis.
After a typically uneventful day at school, Louis was trudging up the stairs to the small condo he shared with his mom and two little sisters, his body aching all over from last period P.E class.
Dodgeball was the sport of satan.
Midway on the stairs, his phone pinged, and Louis pulled it out, smiling at the text.
liam: hey. i know we just said goodbye but i was wondering if you want to hang out tonight?
louis: why, are you asking me out you cutie?
liam: i guess yeah
louis: great then! pick me up at seven sharp, the food needs to be perfect and so should the whole night be. or else i'm not gonna talk to you ever again
liam: i dont really
liam: i'll try but gosh dont stop talking to me
louis: oh god relax i'm kidding. get used to my sense of humor leeyum
liam: i knew that
louis: well i gotta go
liam: and yeah haha. i need to get used to it. ok. i'll see you then x
Louis chuckled at his cuteness, looking down at their texts. Liam was the new guy in their grade, and somehow had gotten on Louis' good side and so the blue eyed boy had taken him under his wing.
And Liam's shy smiles were so obvious, and he was just too adorable and sweet that maybe, just maybe Louis might have taken a shine to the boy. Not to mention he was pretty hot.
Louis slipped his phone inside his pocket, rummaging in his bag as he pulled the key out. His mum was usually at the hospital at this time, and his sisters had decided to go to a friend's house to stay after school. And Louis looked forward to the few hours of peace.
Opening the door, Louis set his bag down, freezing rigid when he took notice of who was in their small living room. The boy's fists clenched at his sides as he spat, "What do you want now?"
Louis' father turned around at the sound of his voice, while his mother sitting next to the man bit her lower lip worriedly. "Louis, don't be rude," she chastised softly.
"Oh please," he rolled his eyes as he scoffed, walking close to where his parents were sitting.
"Still a disrespectful boy you are, huh?" His father tutted, and Louis rolled his eyes yet again, flicking his hair out of his eyes. He had seen his father after years, and wondered what the backstabbing man wanted now, after hurting his mother so many times and driving her into depression.
"Get to the point or get out of my house," Louis snapped.
The man raised his eyebrows, and Louis could tell he was starting to get angry. Good.
"Mum. Why is he here?" He focused his steely gaze on her, who sighed, intimidated by her only son.
"He's just here to talk, Lou."
"About?"
"I just missed you all. Can't a man miss his family?"
And Louis almost laughed hysterically at the man's words. Louis was suddenly glad that his sisters won't be home today.
"No. You cannot. We are not your family. You have done jackshit for us, nothing close to what a father does for his family! I have no idea why Mum was stupid enough to even let you in!" Louis' voice raised with his anger, his jaw clenching. He rarely felt this angry.
"This is my fucking house and I can come here whenever the hell I want!" The man spat as he stood up, now level with the boy who's eyes were blazing.
"Don't you fucking dare call this your house! You lost the right to call it that when you ran off with that slut and left us!" Louis spat venemously, his chest heaving, his blue eyes narrowed at his father.
He won't cry. He refused to cry. He wasn't the five year old crybaby anymore.
"Mum. I can't believe you're gonna be this stupid! You're not like that!" He turned to his mum who shook her head, and Louis had a dreaded feeling there was more to this picture.
"Louis listen, you don't understand--"
"I understand perfectly well mother, I'm old enough now. And I also know that you're smart enough but m'done for now," he said in a steely tone, glaring one last time at his so called father as he followed the path outside, slamming the door with enough force to rattle the hinges, forgetting all about how tired he was.
He knew his father won't hurt his mother, he had never been physical with her. Louis would break each bone in return if he even hurt his mother. And the man knew that.
Louis was fiercely protective of his family, of the people he loved.
But sadly, Louis can't do much if he mentally hurts her. And neither can he throw the man out because after all, he is there at his mother's will.
All Louis needed right now was to be alone at a quiet place, to think and sort his head out, to just get away from how his day had done a complete nosedive towards the worst.
And he knew just the place to go.
