~Chapter 29~

*One morning in the base*
(Optimus' POV)

"What are you trying to do to Y/D?"
"Pardon?"
"I've seen how you've been trying to get closer to her."
"What? I-"
"It would be in your best interest if you told the truth right away. I would also prefer that you don't try and hide it."

I've finally grown tired of Wheeljack and his behavior towards Y/D. I thought I could ignore this feeling building up in my chest, but it was no use. I found Wheeljack in the main room by himself, and decided to take the opportunity to talk to him. Mech to mech.

"Wait... Is Y/D... Your sparkmate or something..? No offense Prime, but you've been a little off lately. It did seem odd at how over protective you've been over her."
"..." That's right... I haven't asked her anything like that yet... Perhaps I... 'jumped the gun' a little too much.
"... You haven't asked her yet, have you?"
"..."

For once, I was finding myself speechless and wondering what to do in this situation. How did I, a Prime, allow my emotions to get out of check?

"I will ask her when I'm ready..."
"... No disrespect or nothing, but you should ask her out soon. Cuz if you don't take the chance, I might try taking her for myself."
"...Is that a threat?"
"Nah. ... It's a promise."

And with that, I watched Wheeljack transform to his alt mode and then drive out to the base. I could only rub my faceplates with my servos a bit and then start my work for the day.

"Good morning Optimus! Are you feeling alright?"

(Y/D's POV)

I had just woken up to some voices out in the main room. My berthroom was closest to the main room, so I could sit on my berth and just listen to conversations happening outside my door. Stretching, I got up and walked over to the door, and slightly slid it open and looked out to see Optimus and Wheeljack down the hallway.

"No disrespect or nothing, but you should ask her out soon. Cuz if you don't take the chance, I might try taking her for myself."
"Is that a threat?"
There was a bit of silence before I heard Wheeljack answer once more.
"Nah. That's a promise."

I could then see him transform and drive out of base, only to see Optimus stand still, staring at the base exit. I then watched him walk over to the nearby computer before walking out and walking over to him.
"Good morning Optimus! Are you feeling alright?"

I saw Optimus slightly jump, which then surprised me and caused me to suddenly jump.
"Sorry, didn't mean to startle you... You seem a bit down..?"
"Ah... I'm alright. You're up rather early."
"Yeah... Arcee said after this lesson, she thinks I can go on a mission finally! So, she said we could also get an early start today."
"..."

Optimus then gently grabbed my servos, holding them in his.
"Please be careful."
"... I will."

.

"Wow! I think you're finally ready!" Arcee said with a confident smile. "I have to do some scouting later today, so... Maybe I can convince Optimus to let you come with me."
"Really?" I smiled and clapped my servos together excitedly.
"Yeah, of course. I didn't put in all this work to see you stay cooped up here in the base."
"Epic!" I shouted and ran out to find Bumblebee and tell him the news, leaving Arcee to just chuckle and prepare for the small scouting mission she had.

"Bumblebee! I finally get to go on a mission! On my first mission! I mean, sure- It's only doing a little bit of scouting... But still! I'm so excited!"
:- I can tell! But I'm happy for you! You really have been working hard. But you better stay safe.-:
"Psh- Of course! I'll also have Arcee with me so..."

Speaking of Arcee, she was now by the ground bridge, about ready to go.
"Now where is she?"
"Hey Arcee. I needed to talk to you."
"Oh... Wheeljack."
"I was wondering if you could let me do this shift? I mean, just this once. Since obviously, I won't be staying here much longer anyways. Might as well try this once?"
"I mean, sure? But why so suddenly?"
"I mean, what? Can't a bot just do some scouting for energon just for fun? Who knows, maybe I'll get the chance to blow something up."

Arcee vented before nodding her helm.
"Fine. But you better watch out for Y/D. This is her first time going off base for a mission, so keep her safe."
"You can count on me."

I walked up to Arcee and Wheeljack.
"Hey you two!"

Arcee smiled," Hey Y/D. So, change of plans. Wheeljack decided to take my shift for today. That is, if you don't mind."
"Of course not! Let's get going then!" I rushed through the ground bridge, with Wheeljack right behind.

(3rd POV)

Optimus had been standing at a nearby computer when he saw you and Wheeljack leave the base. It only left him confused and pondering. He's not actually going to make a move on her... Is he? ... I still needed time... It seems I might not be able to wait much longer...
