Nine

The safe camp is already full of people. Some of them are in a fatal state. Pretty sure due to accidents, considering how horrible the roads are. They look insane. Outside and inside the base area are the same condition. People are in pain everywhere. Nowa decided to walk around the camp. She would like to ask everyone where they are from. Most of them were from KL or Putrajaya. And also a tiny circle from Shah Alam. Nowa also asked them what the monsters looked like. They told her different things, making Nowa even believe that there are more than six variations. They told her that the creatures were massive and bulky. They told her that the creatures had crawled. They told her that the creatures have weird mossy green things on their bodies.

“Did you see how they transform?”, Nowa asked.

“We did and it's terrific!”

Bella catches up with Nowa. She called her for dinner. Maya still hasn’t woken up with Allan who never left her side. The other four are having their dinner together before bringing some food for Allan. 

“Thanks,” Allan said.

“Our pleasure.”

They sat together in the tent that was set up for Maya.

“How’s Maya?”, Bella asked.

“They said, her wound got infected. She got a fever and was a bit hydrated,” Allan explained.

“I see.”

“Will she be fine?”, Mike asked next.

“She will. And she needs to be fine. They gave her some drip and antibiotics.”

They stayed silent for a while before Nowa told them what she heard from the others before. About the variations of the creatures.

“That’s like five or six variations already. How am I gonna survive?”, Daniel asked.

“I think they evolve from time to time,” Mike said.

“Let’s just hope this place will keep us safe for a long time,” Bella said.

The next day, Bella woke up the earliest. She looks around and everyone is still sleeping. Allan is holding Maya’s hand all night. She feels soft just by watching them. She then looks at Daniel and Mike who sleep next to each other. She slowly walks to Daniel, fixing his blanket. 

Suddenly, she sees people running around. They looked panicked. It’s still early for anything to happen but still, something could happen whether we like it or not. Bella stops one of them.

“What’s wrong?!”, Bella asked.

“I don’t freaking know but people are pointing out something inside the cage! There’s something inside the cage!”

“Cage? Which cage?!”

“At the end of this camp. There’s one cage. And there’s an infected inside it! The military decided to keep them here for further projects!”

“What?! An infected?! How did they manage to catch them?!”

“It’s a long story, but they saw him beg for water and take him in! You better stay away from it!”

Bella let him go. This can’t be good. What if it becomes aggressive and breaks out of the cage? She sees that her friends are still sleeping. Probably too tired to care about their chaotic surroundings.

Bella walks to the cage. It’s not a big one. Just enough to fit the infected inside. There's a big canvas covering it. Bella could hear it growling and hissing around.
