Twenty-Four

They ended up sleeping together in the same tent when the soldiers were supposed to be sleeping in their own tent. But, they refused. Around 1 a.m., Daniel wakes up, hearing someone crying again by his side. Daniel sat next to him.

“This cry baby.”

Allan must be having a nightmare again. He knows it’s gonna be hard for him to even move on from anything now. First Maya and then Mike. He’s not even close to Mike but Mike died in his arms. It’ll traumatize anyone who is not used to this situation.

“Allan, wake up,” Daniel said. 

Allan opened his eyes. 

“Bad dream again?”, he asked.

“Yeah,” Allan's voice is so rough now.

Allan suddenly wrapped his arms around Daniel’s waist, placing his head on Daniel’s legs.

“Err, are you okay?”, Daniel asked, patting his head.

“I dream of her again. She asked for help. But I failed again,” Allan said.

It’s hard for Daniel to understand whatever he said since he placed his face right on his legs but he could hear that’s it about Maya.

“It’s just a dream,” Daniel said.

“Dream or reality, it’s the same now. I can’t be happy with her. Not even in my dream.”

“It’ll pass. Trust me.”

“Hmm.”

They stayed like that until Daniel’s back was killing him again. He wants to move but Allan won’t budge.

“Allan, I’m about to break my back at this point. Move away, can you?”

But, no response.

“Al, did you sleep?”

Seems to be like it. Daniel slapped his forehead. This guy is heavy.

“Did they sleep in that position last night?”, Amber asked after seeing Daniel and Allan sleeping’s position.

Allan stayed in his position last night. His arms are still around Daniel’s waist while his head is just resting on his legs and Daniel on the other head, just placing his hand on Allan’s back.

“Daniel is always whining about having back pain. Is he okay with that position?”, Nowa asked.

“Should we wake them up?”, Daus asked.

“I don’t know. Should we?”, Sofea asked back.

“Nah, just let them be. They’ll wake up whenever they want. Let’s get something to eat first,” Radz said.

They eat some breakfast before heading back to the isolation camp to get an update on the antidote. 

“Will Professor William get it done before anything bad happens to Bella?”, Nowa asked.

Sofea patted her shoulder. She also didn’t know what to say about that. It’s all up to Professor William's efficiency. 

“I’ll burn this place to the ground if they fail to do it,” Amber said.

“Sure you would,” Karn replied.

“Shut up or I'll make you wear that dress again.”

Karn immediately kept her mouth shut, head down. Amber got her finger wrapped around Karn out of nowhere.

“Should we see her after this?”, Shaf asked.

“Let’s do it. At least she knows that we’re waiting and hoping for her to be okay,” Daus agrees.
