Idea: Subaru is from the world of the Sonic the Hedgehog video games(and IDW comics, they are supposed to be the same universe)(referred to as Earth at some points), but is just some random civilian. You can make him somewhat aware of the major events that mess with time thanks to RBD if you feel like it. He can come from any point in the timeline, with more insane stuff happening the later in the timeline he is taken from. I would keep him human, but the story would probably work with him as an anthropomorphic animal person if you want.
