Crack: Instead of typical Arc 5, everyone comes to participate in the Olympic Games in Priestella in a Mario & Sonic at the Olympic games-type plot. The Witch Cult got mad for not being invited and decided to crash it with some kind of mcguffin(like the 2012 London Olympic Games Phantasmal Fog) and everyone challenges each other to Olympic Games events instead of regular fighting or off-the-bat cooperation. For extra insanity, you can have Mario & Sonic be there with their supporting casts.

Alternatively, you can do this with the capital when Subaru gets summoned and have everyone including the random thugs do fights by challenging people to Olympic Games events.(Elsa and Meili vs. Subaru and Emilia in Table Tennis doubles)(also, could extend everyone wanting to play Olympic Games events to the whole series)

Option 3: have Subaru have the ability to challenge anyone near himself to events included in the Mario & Sonic at the Olympic Games series, including Dream events. Him, the challenged party(ies), and allied party(ies)(for team events) appear at the venue included in the Mario & Sonic game(randomized for ones that are in multiple), people in the vicinity appear in the audience, if someone nearby knows the rules then they are the referee and explain the rules(if no one that knows the rules is nearby, then the referee is filled by whoever does it in-game). Subaru can qualify when the events start by time or other conditions, can only invite those who can physically do the events(like Wolfgrams can do 100 m dash, but not table tennis), and they get to keep the medals and anything they pick up during events(some dream events have stuff such as Mariokart items, rings, coins, etc.) and gear given to them for the events(stuff such as the Fencing sword and Archery bow). I expect this version to start with Subaru wishing he was doing hurdles or something when against the 3 thugs, but it could legitimately start anywhere, such as Rhythmic Ribbon against Julius.(could also have Rhythmic Ribbon be how they do duels instead of this entire prompt)(doubles table tennis Arlam Village tournament later?) For extra crack, empty slots can be filled by random Mario & Sonic characters including Miis.

Option 4: Subaru comes from the world where the Mario & Sonic at the Olympic games, whether that be something very close to the real world except Mario & Sonic & friends visit for the olympic on occasion(very close to cannon, but he does remark about stuff such as the Phantasmal Fog upon finding out about the whale), or some completely insane amalgam of the Mario and Sonic worlds with locations that the Olympic Games included(events of both series happen, lightly modified by other series being present and/or events of each series are constantly happening in different parts of the world at the same time, making it so they don't impact each other and/or motivations such as Wario doesn't care about things that don't stop him, orignally a link to seandwalsh's Mario timeline on Tumblur here. Essentially, Subaru occasionally mentions the insane events that happen in both series that would be known to the public and can bring skills/items from both, ex. Extreme Gear, Power-Ups, Rings, Coins, anything buyable from a shop including some kinda insane gear, Bros. items, stuff that the avatar in forces does with a wire, Grinding on ropes and tops of buildings, magic abilities, wall jumps, Mid-Air Trick Actions, Level-up items, other tech, 1-up mushrooms, potentially the ability to hear background music(Dance Dance Revolution Mario Mix credits and enemies in some New Super Mario bros. games), etc. Could have stuff such as the universal reset from Galaxy fixes the moon for Odyssey and make Miis be random people, so Subaru can be in one's place where they appear  outside of being profile icons(ex. Mario Golf: Super Rush Golf Adventure, where he would gain the power of flame and be very good at Golf))
