CH.17 - Getting help

Jake's pov:

It's been a few weeks since Johnnie has hung out with us after school. I know I'd typically be upset about not being able to spend any time with him but I'm not. I'm distracted by something else... Something more important.

I know that johnnie has struggled with food before. I know that it was probably a big struggle in the past and that he's gotten better now. But whenever we don't hang out for a long time I can see him get weaker.. I don't know how to bring it up with him though. I want him to know that I care about him and that I'm worried about him. I think I'll ask him whenever we're alone at lunch.

It's lunch not and luckily we were the first people to reach our table. Now's the best time imma get.

"Johnnie..?" I ask as we sit down next to each other

"Yeah?" He smiles

"Um...I've noticed that you haven't been eating.." I almost whisper

"W-what do you mean? I never eat at lunch.." Johnnie gives me a weak smile

"No I mean...I don't think that you've been eating at home." I frown

Johnnie just looks at me for a moment then puts his hands on my cheeks.

"I'm fine Jake, there's nothing to worry about." He smiles

"Are you sure?"

"Positive!"

The rest of the lunch went by fast. I'm just happy that I was able to get it out of the way. I just hope that he's telling me the truth. I mean, there's no need for him to lie to me. He knows I care about him and that I would never judge him for what he's going through. I just want to understand him more.

Another week goes by and I start to worry more. Every time I hold his hand hits cold and he looks visibly weak, Sam even noticed and talked to me about it. Were trying to think of ways to make him eat but he keeps saying that he's not hungry. I know he's lying but what can I do. I can't force feed him.

The school day went by fast compared to others and when the end of the school bell rings I rush my way to johnnies last class of the day. When I reach his hallway I can see a big smile if his face.

"What's got you so happy?" I ask as I grab his hand

"Mom said that I can hang out with you guys today, just can't stay out too late." He smiles

"Hell yeah! Did she finally get tired of having you around all day?" I laugh

"No, she just feels bad about taking me away from you." He holds my hand tighter

"From me?" I look down at him

"Yeah, she wanted to know about you guys because I've been out a lot and it's kinda hard to not talk about you and your jealousy." He says as he opens the gate to leave the school

"O-oh..and she's...fine with it?" I blush

"In her own words "as long as he doesn't get in trouble, he sounds like a good partner." So yeah, she could care less."

"Partner?" I blush even more

"W-well I mean look at us. We look like a couple and when I explain our friendship it sounds more.like a relationship." Johnnie now has a light shade of pink forming on his face

"I guess." I smile as we make our way to Sam's car

"You guys are usually pink today." Sam laughs as we get into the car

"Shut up." I say as i press my face into the car window

"If you guys aren't doing anything we should hang out at the mall." Johnnie smiles
