All throughout my classes I thought of what Clara had said at night.
"Your smile is so pretty."
"You are pretty."It replayed in my mind and never let it go. But no matter what, they were there. The voices. The constant reminder that me and Clara are different. That if anything comes out of this, whatever it is, it will be different.
"Yo Will, you okay man?" Danny asked me.
"Huh?" I said, sounding like an idiot. We were at lunch and I was sitting with Danny and Henry, my two closest friends. I didn't care much because then Clara waved at me, and I dreamily waved back.
"You've been staring at Clara for a couple of minutes," Danny said. "Something happen last night?" Henry's face turned a bit pink at the mention of his sister. I watched as she walked away, possibly to go each lunch with the librarian.
"Sorry," I muttered. "No, nothing happened. We just worked."
"Oh, my bad man. I didn't realize she was pissed off at you," he apologized.
"Why would she be pissed off at him?" Henry asked.
"I dunno," Danny said.
Henry glared at him but he didn't seem to notice. "Hey guys I'll catch you later," I said, getting up and looking at where Clara was speaking to a teacher and shifting uncomfortably.
"Yeah okay," Henry said, twirling his food with his fork.
I made my way over to Clara and the teacher, who I soon identified as Mr. White. I approached them slowly, making it as unnoticeable as possible.
"...there's a couple of open lockers in the locker room that I hoped you could help me close," I caught Mr. White saying.
"Um," Clara shifted once more, and I jumped out scaring her. "FUCK YOU!"
I started laughing, Mr. White frowning. "That's not how you should behave, Mr. Afton," he frowned. "You could have scared her."
"He did do that," Clara said, catching her breath. She then lowered her voice so only I could hear her next words, "Help me please."
"Mr. White, I think Jamee would love to help you with the locker problem. I need to steal Clara for a minute, I need book suggestions since my mother wants me to start reading again," I made up a quick lie.
"If I hear you two doing anything, I'm alerting the principal," he scoffed.
"I don't plan on doing anything but reading books," I smiled, showing my pearly white teeth.
It did the job and Mr. White began slumping away, looking grumpy.
"Thank you," Clara sighed once Mr. White walked away.
"Its no issue," I reassured her. "I could tell you were uncomfortable."
She smiled softly before letting it drop. I grabbed her hand and whisked her away from the public eye, to which she began crying. I didn't ask anything, I just sat next to her when she crumbled to the ground. Anyone who stared, I would mutter a threat and they would scurry away quickly.
"He kept telling me he needed help in the locker room," she finally spoke, all of her tears gone. "Whenever I told him he should get a boy, he just asked me if I was accusing him of something."
"I'm sorry that happened to you, Clara," I said, wiping some of her mascara away. "Its okay now though."
She seemed to straighten up and pulled herself back together. "So about those books," she said. I rolled my eyes, standing up and helping her to her feet.
"We're not about to go read for the rest of lunch," I said.
"Yes we are," she said flatly. She looked me into the eyes and before I knew it, she put her lips on mine.
It wasn't anything major, and didn't last more than a second, but hell did it make me giddy. "Now will you come read books with me for the rest of lunch?" she giggled.
"Yes," I replied, feeling my stomach erupt in butterflies.
She grabbed my hand and pulled me past the cafeteria. I knew some people were probably staring, including Henry and Danny, but I couldn't care enough to take my eyes off of her. I knew she was the one for me. Nobody could possibly change my mind.
We arrived at the library, which I gave her a kiss before we entered it. "Hello Clara," the librarian who I believed her name was Mrs. Weather, although I wasn't sure. "Who's this?"
"William Afton," Clara smiled. "I was showing him some of my favorite books."
"A boy?" she echoed. "Well, there's a quiet corner right in the back that nobody will check. You two can read some books back there."
"Thank you," Clara said before leading me through the bookshelves.
I could tell why Clara loved this library, even if it was only a school one. She started searching and handed me a bunch of books before she took me to the corner to give me the full laydown of each book she chose.
I listened to her because I loved her voice. I loved seeing her speak so lively and filled with passion. "And that's it," she finished. I pecked her lips once more. "God you're so needy."
"I think I want to spend the rest of my life with you," I said.
Clara's cheeks turned red as she beamed. "I think I want to too," she smiled.
The space between us was too big, and she clearly felt the same. She kissed me one last time before we heard the bell ring and went to class hand in hand, not caring what anyone else thought. God I loved this girl
