Christina
Logan dropped his hand from my throat the moment the door opened. He still had his hand in my hair, which he pulled slowly, giving enough time for the intruder to witness it. I wanted to die out of embarrassment, imagining how it would appear to the person who had stepped inside.
Logan turned and looked at the intruder with a murderous expression.
"Yes?" He asked Cynthia, who was looking between the two of us astonished.
"Mr. Smith sent me to check if you needed anything," she asked, composing herself.
I didn't miss how Cynthia looked at me with loathing in her eyes. It was clear that Jonathan had sent her to spy on me and Logan.
"It was very kind of him," Logan remarked, then looked down at me with such abhorrence as one would at a filthy street dog.
"How can I help you, Mr. De La Roche," she asked with a pleasant smile.
"I like efficiency in my employees, and I am glad that Mr. Smith hired someone efficient," Logan said with his eyes filled with admiration for Cynthia.
Cynthia's eyes glinted from her inner joy, and why shouldn't they? She was the first employee to have garnered Logan's admiration. When all he had done after he had stepped into this office was belittling me.
"I hope Christina didn't bother you with her clumsiness," she taunted with a saccharine smile.
Logan looked carefully at Cynthia for the first time, regarding her with his brown eyes. She batted her eyelashes at him with such admiration that my whole mouth got bitter.
"Ms. Williams demonstrating her expert skills to me," he looked at Cynthia knowingly, then glanced at me spitefully.
I gasped at his comment, and it didn't take me any time to realize that he had noticed Cynthia's hostility towards me and would make sure to bank on it whenever he deemed it fit.
"I now understand why Mr. Smith is insistent on keeping Ms. Williams employed," Logan smiled mysteriously.
"Christina is very well-versed when it comes to keeping Mr. Smith happy," Cynthia replied cynically.
Logan's jaw clenched, and the vein on his forehead popped out from rage. Did he believe what Cynthia had said? How could I even think I would get involved with a pervert like Jonathan? But I had forgotten that Logan hated me, and he indeed thinks the worst about me.
"I am sure Christina will please you with her excellent skills very soon, as she has pleased Mr. Smith," Cynthia snickered, and I wanted the Earth to swallow me alive.
Logan inquired about Jonathan to Cynthia, and soon, they both got busy in the conversation. The way Logan was smiling at Cynthia was making my stomach churn. Did hate blind him to such an extent that he could not look through Cynthia's facade?
Assuming that they were not paying attention to me, I turned to leave, but Logan's voice halted my feet.
"Any problem, Ms. Williams?"
"Can I leave, Mr. De La Roche?" Turning, I asked in a hesitant tone, noticing his displeased face.
"My assistant is on maternity leave and couldn't accompany me here. Ms. Williams, you will be serving as my assistant for the course of this project," Logan ordered, making my eyes widen in astonishment.
"I am an architect, not a secretary," I blurted out and regretted it when I saw Logan's jaw clench in rage.
"Have you completed your Master's, Ms. Williams? Do you have a license to practice architecture?" He inquired in a mocking tone.
