Christina
Of course, he was, and judging from his expression, he looked pretty serious. Wasn't he bothered even after the way Logan reacted?
"I don't know if it's a good idea. I don't want you to.....," I left my sentence incomplete, unsure what to say.
"It's okay, you can take your time and text me when you make up your mind," he handed me a visiting card with his name and number.
I slipped it into my clutch, then smiled at him, "Thanks, Jeremy, will see you around," and left from there.
After texting Joan, I was out for the night. I caught a cab home. Aiden was already asleep, and Pol was waiting for me.
"I thought you would be late," she smiled at me knowingly.
"Pol, it's not like I was going to spend the night with someone," I rolled my eyes.
"You should have. How long since you last had fun?" She winked at me.
"I am not discussing my nonexistent sex life with you," I fake glared at her, then slumped on the couch beside her.
"I wished I could do more to help you," she sighed, caressing my cheek.
"You and Goerge have already done enough, and I will be forever grateful to you for that," I held her hand in mine and pressed it gently to show her how much it meant to me.
I didn't know how I would have survived without the help of Aunt Pol and Uncle George. After Mom was diagnosed with cancer, I thought my life had ended. But they both stood by my side through thick and thin.
"You had to go through so much at such a young age," she said, with her voice filled with affection for me.
"I guess this is life, Pol," I replied.
"You are the strongest person I know, Christina, and I can't tell you how proud I am of you. The way you fought through everything that life had thrown at you deserves to be applauded," Pol's voice was full of admiration.
"Thanks, Pol," I smiled at her.
"So, how was your night?" She diverted the topic, sensing the sadness in the air.
"It was good, and I met this nice guy named Jeremy. He is a friend of Alex and has asked me for a date," I told Pol.
She and I were like friends more than Aunt and niece. Pol was one of the nicest people that I had ever come across.
"So, are you going to go out with him?" She asked.
"I don't know, Pol. I mean, it's not like I don't want to. My life is so complicated at the moment," I expressed my dilemma with her.
"Life is never going to get simple, Christina. You will need to take time for yourself before life wears you down," her tone was filled with resentment.
Pol had always insisted I start dating again. She offered to babysit Aiden on more than a few occasions so I could spend time with friends or on a date. But I didn't want to burden her more than I already did. She was already doing a lot, looking after Mom and Aiden when I was at work. I didn't think it was appropriate to ask her to come over on weekends as well. She and Goerge needed time for themselves, and it was not like I ever liked someone enough to go on a date with.
"This is your chance, Christina. What's holding you back from dating again?"
If I could tell Pol what was holding me back, if she knew about Logan, I didn't know how she might react to the news. And if Mom finds out, it will lead to even more complications than before.
