ChristinaTo avoid Logan the following day and prevent myself from further embarrassment, I skipped breakfast in the dining room with everyone. Instead, I pretended to be asleep when Debbie came to call me and then went to the kitchen to grab something to eat after I was sure everyone had finished breakfast.
It turned out to be a mistake because the moment I stepped inside the kitchen, I couldn't get rid of the images from last night that began playing in my mind.
"How can I help you, My Lady?" The cook asked when he noticed me frozen in the doorway.
"Can you fix me a sandwich?"
"Sure, My Lady," he smiled politely and began preparing a sandwich for me.
I settled on a chair at the dining table in the kitchen and watched the cook prepare the sandwich. He placed the plate before me, along with freshly squeezed orange juice.
"Thanks," I said gratefully.
I had lifted the sandwich to my mouth when Harold and Julia strolled into the kitchen, looking excited about something.
"Good morning," I greeted them.
"Morning," they replied cheerfully.
"We guys are going to a pool party in the nearby town. You wanna come along?" Julia asked.
Me???
Attending a Pool party?
How did that happen? I knew Henry and Harold had many friends in the nearby town, but I didn't expect them to ask me to come along.
"Who is going?" I inquired to make sure Logan wasn't on the list before I agreed to go.
"Henry, Paula, Logan Harold, and me," Julia replied.
Logan?
Since when did my cousins get along with him so well that they invited him to a pool party?
"I planned to go hiking today, and a pool party isn't my thing, to be honest," I declined politely.
There was no way I would go to a pool party with Logan, especially after what happened last night.
"Come on, Christina, it would be fun. You can go hiking some other day," Julia insisted.
"I am not a party person," I hesitated.
"It won't hurt you to come along once," Harold teased.
I sighed.
I liked my cousin's. They accepted me with open arms after Dad's death despite his cold behavior towards them throughout his life. Refusing to go to the party despite their insistence felt rude to me. I couldn't ruin my relationship with my family because of Logan. It was a party, and many people would attend it. What could Logan do in the presence of so many people?
"Okay," I agreed after a bit of consideration.
"Yay," Julia cheered, "Get ready. We will leave in an hour. Don't forget to pack your bikini if you feel like taking a dip," Julia instructed, then left the kitchen with Harold.
I finished my sandwich and headed to my room, texting Debbie to meet me there on my way. Debbie arrived after a few minutes while I was busy scanning my closet for an outfit appropriate for a pool party.
"What are you looking for?" Debbie inquired.
"What should I wear to a pool party?" I asked, stepping aside to let Debbie help me.
