Christina

Logan pulled his hand from my shorts and stepped away from me immediately. I tied the straps of my robe and turned to look at the person who had walked on us. What I saw made a wave of laughter erupt from my mouth.

It was a cat.

Lola, the cat of the housekeeper at Clairings, was looking for food in the containers and had knocked down one of them.

"Fuck," Logan cursed, then he joined with me in laughing.

It was ridiculous; we should have been worried about the consequences of someone finding us in that position, but we were laughing instead. It was a relief that no one had witnessed what happened between us. The thought made me pause my laugh, and my blood went cold.

I had just allowed my best friend to feel me up and finger me. The realization hit me hard like a truck and left me drained.

"Christina," Logan noticed the change in my expression and stepped towards me.

I stepped back immediately, shaking my head, and ran out of the kitchen without thinking. The shame of what happened just now crashed on me, and my whole body trembled.

I locked my bedroom door when I stepped inside and leaned against it. My hands shook, and my heart raced.

What had I done?

I pushed away from the door and hurried to the bed, falling face-first on it. Logan De La Roche had just fucked me with his fingers, and I had allowed it, enjoyed it. Logan was my best friend and confidante. How did we go from being friends to whatever it was in only a day?

I gulped, realizing I would have to spend a week in his vicinity. How was I supposed to face him without thinking about what happened in the kitchen a few minutes ago? The main thing was, would Logan leave me alone after what happened?

He was not someone to back off quickly. I had known him for years, and if Logan set his eyes on something, he wouldn't stop until he achieved it. He was determined in an otherworldly way.

To be honest, I had never imagined Logan would ever want me, and to find out that he desired me for a very long time was almost unbelievable. The information that he pushed me away because he was scared about his changed feelings for me was not easy to sink me.

"It only worsened it. I couldn't think about anything else other than you."

His words kept repeating in my mind. I remember the day of her mother's funeral when I hugged him. I had waited with him while he said goodbye to his mother in private after everyone had left. Logan knelt beside her grave and stared at her tombstone for nearly an hour.

I wished I could have taken away his pain, but there was nothing I could do. Marie was all he had, and after her death, no one remained in the world to whom he was related by blood. Marie was an orphan and had been born at Clairings. Her parents worked for the Williams and had died when the roof of their house collapsed in a storm. Luckily, Marie had survived, and she was raised at the estate.

She met Logan's father when he visited Clairings with Dad once and seduced her. Logan's father left after a month when his business was over, and Marie had to live with the consequences of becoming a mother without wedlock.

Marie told Logan that his father had denied taking any responsibility for her or the child. He had offered her money instead to get an abortion. Marie refused to take the money and chose to give birth to Logan.

I hated Logan's father for abandoning him and Marie. I knew Logan never said it, but it always hurt him that his father regarded him and his mother as unworthy to take responsibility for them.

"She rests in peace," I placed my hand on Logan's shoulder when he did not attempt to leave even after an hour.

"She was all I had," Logan murmured.

"You are strong, and I know you will get through this," I assured him.

"I don't know how to do it without her. I miss her terribly," Logan clutched my hand tightly.

"If it's any consolation. I am here for you," I said, looking into Logan's deep brown eyes.

"Thanks, Christina," he said, and I felt how hard it was for him to restrain himself from breaking down.

I wanted to tell him to let go, wanted to make him realize it was okay to be vulnerable in front of me. We were best friends, and no one could understand us better than each other.

"Let's go. It's getting late," Logan pushed to his feet and pulled me along with him, "Duke Richard wouldn't approve of it if you stayed out for long."

I wanted to tell Logan that Dad wouldn't notice it, but I couldn't speak. His father abandoned him, but I still felt I didn't have anyone either because of Dad's indifference. We walked out of the cemetery together, hand in hand.

My driver, Joseph, waited for me in the car. Logan halted beside the car and dropped my hand, "Aren't you coming?" I asked, startled.

"I have some errands to run, then I will go to the dorm," Logan replied.

He was in the senior year of his graduation and already gotten a scholarship at a firm in Sweden. I knew he would leave London in a few months, which sank my heart.

"Okay," I replied in a disappointed tone.

I hoped he would come home with me, and we could have a movie night or a marathon of our favorite drama to lift his mood.

"I will see you tomorrow," he promised, noticing my disappointment.

A smile crept on my face, and I hugged him tightly, "I will hold you to that," I said, looking up into his eyes.

Logan smiled at me, the first genuine smile I had seen on his face after Marie's death.  It lit up his face, and I watched, mesmerized.

I pulled from the hug, but my brooch got stuck in his shirt. I tried to unclasp it, but couldn't. Logan pulled my hand from the brooch, "Let me try."

I dropped my hands to my front, and it accidentally brushed his crotch. My cheeks blasted with heat, and I looked at Logan, who didn't seem to notice and was busy removing the brooch from his shirt.

"There you go," he whispered after he freeing it from his shirt.

I pulled away, still blushing from what happened, and turned my face away from Logan, fearing he would notice my expression.

"Bye," I said and then slid into the backseat of the car hurriedly.

Logan didn't visit me the next day or the days following it. When I called him inquiring about his promise, he apologized for being too busy but would see me as soon as he was free. I got a strange feeling at his words, but I didn't think about it much.

It was only the start, and Logan drifted far and far from me with each passing day.  He moved to Sweden after his graduation, and the frequency of our calls and texts decreased. Then I found out he was going to the Netherlands for his Masters.

I understood the reason why he had pushed me away after his admission earlier in the kitchen. He was afraid of his feelings for me, but what about his claim of coming to visit me and I declining to meet him? That was still a mystery, and I was unsure if he was telling the truth or lying.

Why was Logan so interested in me all of a sudden? If he could lie about my father's wish, he could lie about wanting me. But I couldn't forget how he made me feel and the way he groaned when he found me wet.

 I was fucked.
