When I returned to work on Monday, I found my handbag on my desk. It could only mean one thing: Logan brought it with him. I pulled out my cell and unlocked it. There were a few calls from Joan and a text from Samuel apologizing for his behavior at the party.

"Hey, what's up?" Joan's voice pulled me out of my thoughts, "I called you a few times yesterday, but you didn't respond. Is everything okay?"

"Yeah, I am fine. I was a little busy yesterday. Mom wasn't feeling the best," I lied.

"Oh, how is she now?" Joan inquired.

"Better," I smiled at her assuringly.

Joan and I got back to work. I hoped Logan wouldn't make me go through hell today for declining his offer. But to my astonishment, he didn't ask for me other than for his coffee and a dictation.

I couldn't understand the reason for his behavior. It wasn't like Logan to let go of that easily. Samuel tried to apologize to me again. I guess he had finally pulled his head out of his ass. But I wasn't in the mood to forgive him. He was my friend, and he hadn't thought once before treating me like trash.

He went ahead and accepted what Logan told him without even giving me a chance to explain. I wondered what made Sam change his mind all of a sudden. Did something happen at the party after I left?

It was after lunchtime when Jonathan asked me into his office. I wasn't sure what he wanted from me. Logan told me that Jonathan wouldn't bother me again, but it looked like Jonathan had no desire to follow Logan's instructions.

"You called for me?" I knocked and entered his cabin.

"Yes, I wanted to discuss a few things with you," Jonathan replied from behind his desk.

I was a little startled by his words. What did Jonathan want to discuss with me? Would he bring up his marriage offer again? It was ridiculous. Two powerful men wanted me. One wanted to make me his wife and the other his mistress. I only wished the roles were reserved and it was Logan who wanted to marry me and not Jonathan.

But Logan had a girlfriend, and they were expecting a child together. There was no way in hell Logan would want to marry me. Especially after what I did to him. Would Logan forgive me if he found the truth?

"I made sure Samuel won't bother you again," Jonathan said after a few moments, and I stared at him in alarm.

Was it why Samuel apologized to me because Jonathan threatened him? But why would Jonathan do something like that? He had always been an asshole to me. Why did he change all of a sudden?

"Excuse me?"

"I know De La Roche is trying to create problems for you. But you don't have to worry about him. As long as I am the boss, your job is safe," Jonathan smiled, and I felt a churning sensation in my stomach.

Was Jonathan trying to play nice? Was he feeling threatened by Logan and worried he would lose me to him? Was that why he was being good to me, thinking I wouldn't be with Logan if he promised me security?

"You are being mistaken. Mr. De La Roche is nothing but professional with me," I replied.

"Come on, Christina, he wouldn't be threatening every man around you if he was only professional with you," Jonathan snapped.

It wasn't a surprise. Jonathan was a vile man and couldn't be good to anyone for long. And why did Logan threaten everyone? Was he out of his mind? Why did he care if I slept around with half of Chicago?

"You mean to say he threatened you?" A strange feeling engulfed me.

"He might try, but I am not afraid of him. If he thinks he can take you away from me, then he couldn't be more wrong," Jonathan gritted.

"I am sorry, Sir, but I am not a thing you men can pass around as entertainment. I want to do my job and would appreciate it if you both would avoid any power-play around me," it took all my strength to push those words out of my mouth from the fear that they might offend him, but I couldn't stay silent anymore.

Jonathan clenched his jaw and glared at me in disapproval, "You are and always will be an ungrateful bitch. It would be good for you if I let Logan destroy you. Then maybe you would learn to show some gratitude to people who are good to you," he spat with loathing.

"I appreciate your concern, but I am strong enough to care for myself and don't need anyone's pity. Now, if you will excuse me, I have work to do," I turned on my heels and marched out of his office without looking back.

Jonathan could suck it up because I was done with those men. I didn't care if they fired me from the job. I would do anything rather than bow down to those bastards ever again.

I panted by the time I reached my desk. Dropping on my seat, I turned on the computer and began going over the task that Logan assigned me.

My mind was in turmoil. I had been through hell in the past two days. The shock of having sex with Logan hadn't been over when he bombarded me with information about his girlfriend. I was still struggling to accept he was in a relationship and expecting a baby, when Logan made me the offer to become his mistress.

Seven hells would freeze before I accepted his offer, and then Jonathan tried to manipulate me by pretending to be my well-wisher. To hell with those men. I would rather die than trust them or ever agree to their offers.

I came home to find an upset Aiden. He had broken one of his favorite toys and was crying over it. Pol and Mom tried to console him, but he sobbed uncontrollably.

Pol shared a look with me when I arrived, and I assured her that I would take care of him.

"Hey, baby, what happened?" I dropped to my haunches in front of the couch he was sitting on.

"I broke my Batman bike," he replied, sobbing, lifting the broken bike in his hand and showing it to me.

It was the same bike we bought last weekend when Aiden ran into Logan at the mall.

"I will buy you a new one next month if you promise me to be a good boy," I tried to cheer him up.

"You will?" He looked up at me with tear-filled eyes.

"Of course, but only if you stop crying and be a good boy while we go and buy you some donuts," I messed his hair, and Aiden jumped from the couch and hugged me.

"I promise not to cry and be a good boy. Can we get the donuts now?" He inquired impatiently.

"Yes," I replied, straightening while holding him in my arms.

"Just let me change," I set him back on his feet and headed to my bedroom.

When I returned to the living room, Pol informed me one of Mom's medicines was finished, and I would need to get new ones from the pharmacy. I took the prescription from her hand, and then Aiden and I left the apartment.

I didn't find Mom's medicine at any pharmacy in our locality and had to go downtown to the pharmacy near her hospital. I bought the medicine, and Aiden and I went to the coffee shop near the hospital. It was the same coffee shop where Aiden and Logan met for the first time.

I ordered the salesman to pack Aiden's favorite donuts when Aiden's cheerful voice from beside me made my heart shrink in my chest.

"Hi, Logan," he greeted in an excited voice.

I felt like the ground slipped below my feet, and I was falling into an abyss. My heart thudded so fast I feared it would break out of my chest. That was the moment that I had been dreading for weeks, and it was finally there.

"Look, Mom, Logan is here," Aiden pulled my shirt, and I had no choice but to turn towards them.

When my eyes met Logan, his face was covered in astonishment, and slowly, it got replaced with rage.
