BELLE

"do you live near here, Belle?" he asks making me
smile

"I do, Kill" I nudge his arm with my shoulder

he lets out that pretty chuckle again

"just down here" I point down the street

"I'll take you"

" you don't need to it's fin-"

"I said. I'll. take. you" he says in a tone that dares me to decline again

"okay" I reply "thank you" he nods

"what about the dead guy" I question

"I have someone to clean it up fiore don't worry"

I nod my head as we start walking

I start humming my song again

"what's that song"

"Hm?" I question

"you were singing it before" he looks down at me
"what is it"

"oh it's 'Golden Slumbers' by The Beatles but I prefer Elbows version" I tell him "It's my favourite song"

he hums knowingly

I put one of my earphones in and reach up putting the other in his ear as we listen to the song

after walking for another moment, neither of us saying anything as we listen to the short song, we come to an apartment block that's a few houses before mine

"here?" he asks

"no, my apartment is in that one"

"so why are we stopping here, hm?"

"oh if my foster parents see me with a man they'll bea- I mean uh they'll be um mad"

I look away from his eyes because I can't lie for the life of me

I know he can tell I'm lying by the look on his face but he thankfully doesn't say anything

"foster parents?"

"yeah but I turn 18 in 5 days so then I can leave" I smile at the thought

"They aren't nice to you?" he seems angry I'm not sure why

"they're.. fine"

he nods but just stares at my house

"I should go but thank you for saving me and taking me home" I smile widely at him

"anytime Belle" he winks, hand me the earphone and turns around as I walk up to my house

"you're late" I hear Sarah first

"change and come here you know what's coming"

I don't even fight it and just do as they say, too tired and overwhelmed to try and explain myself

it never helps anyway

I come back downstairs in some old shorts and a T-shirt

and see John standing with a large kitchen knife that I know from using almost every day,  isn't the sharpest

this is really going to hurt

I sigh and walk closer

"knees" I do as John says and get on my knees

he lifts my head up with the knife cutting my neck slightly

I feel warm blood dripping down my neck

"Why don't you listen to our rules Belize?" Sarah shakes her head

"We do so much for you and you can't even come home in time to make us dinner"

"Without us, you'd be living on the streets"

John takes the knife away from my neck and slits my arm, just below my shoulder down to my elbow, deeply

I scream in pain

"if you didn't have us Belize you would be selling your body to buy drugs" John tells me

he flips me over so I'm lying on my stomach

"like mother like daughter eh?"

he uses the knife to cut the back of my shirt so he has access to my bare back

he drags the knife across my skin over the whip marks repeatedly

until I'm barely conscious from blood loss

he picks up my small body and sits me against the counter before grabbing a bat

all I can hear is a constant ringing in my ear that drowns out his yelling and cursing

he hits me again and again

I hear a crunching type of noise going through my body and I know he's broken at least one of my ribs

he finally stops and kicks my waist harshly pushing me so I'm lying on the floor

bleeding, bruised, broken

they both leave the house, probably to go out drinking, closing the door with a slam

I realised I had blacked out for a while when I woke up seeing the clock showing it was 3:46 am

I cling to the walls literally dragging my body to the bathroom, showering, bandaging my body and stitching the stab wound on my arm, the best I can before going to my room in the attic

it's not an attic since I live in an apartment, but that's the best way to describe it

it's the small space above the kitchen that has old stairs that look as if they're going to break at any moment leading up to it

I have a mirror, a clock, a mattress, blankets, two pillows and a chair where I keep all of the 2nd hand clothes I buy

I know it's not the best but it's somewhere to sleep and that's all I need

I take some painkillers I bought last week and fall into a deep sleep, my dreams hazy, as I wait for tomorrow
