The general store was a beacon of civilization amidst the rustic charm of Edgerest, and it was here that Lumi and Lucky decided to spend their afternoon. The store was well-lit, with rows upon rows of shelves stacked high with all manner of goods. The smell of cinnamon and nutmeg wafted through the air, filling the space with a cozy, comforting scent.
There were jars of various spices, dried fruits, and herbs lining the shelves beside the door, as well as bags of flour, sugar, and salt. The shelves lining the far wall held bottles of vinegar, olive oil, and other cooking essentials. The counter was made of clear polished wood, and behind it stood the storekeeper, a middle-aged woman with a kind smile and a motherly demeanor. Her name was Mrs. Emberwood, and she was well-known for her baking skills.
The moment Lumi and Lucky stepped into the store, Mrs. Emberwood greeted them warmly, setting aside the ledger she had been working on. "Ah, hello there! It's wonderful to see you two again. How can I help you today?" she asked, her voice as sweet as honey.
Mrs. Emberwood was a stout woman, with rosy cheeks and kind eyes that seemed to sparkle whenever she smiled. Her salt-and-pepper hair was pulled back into a tidy bun, and she wore a simple but elegant dress that accentuated her ample figure. A pair of reading glasses hung from a chain around her neck, and she often used them when she was tallying up numbers or perusing recipe books. Lumi and helped her check out numerous baking books from the library, so she was well acquainted with her. Her contributions to the town were legendary. Not only did she run the most popular general store in Edgerest, but she also organized bake sales and charity events on a regular basis. The proceeds from these events often went to helping the less fortunate in the village, and she never hesitated to lend a helping hand to those in need. She was loved by everyone in Edgerest, and her baked goods were the talk of the town. Her cinnamon rolls were particularly famous, with some people even claiming they could cure ailments.
"Hello, Mrs. Emberwood, I hope you're having a wonderful day," Lumi said, smiling warmly at the older woman. "Lucky and I were just here to look around. We...uh...have a plan to head to Mirstone for a little while. You know, until my house is rebuilt."
"Oh, yes, I saw that!" Mrs. Emberwood said, placing a hand to her chest. "Are you alright, dear? That must have been very scary!"
Lumi laughed nervously, rubbing her hands together. "I'm alright, Mirs. Emberwood. Really, I am. Uh, anyway, we'll be browsing." She turned and pushed Lucky down to the back of the store, where the wine bottles were stacked neatly one before the other.
"She seems to be in high spirits today," Lucky said, bending over to read the labels on the fresh bottles of wine.
Lumi nodded, looking through the various brands and flavors. She stopped at one bottle, inspecting it carefully. The label read: "Moonlight Vineyards", a name she recognized from somewhere. She looked down the line of bottles and saw that the Moonlight brand seemed to be the most popular, and she wondered if there was some significance to that.
