Sarviline's spell sent Ringmaster directly back to Bellcrest, where he stumbled into the town before catching himself on a building. "D-damn her," he muttered, rubbing his now sore arms.
The town was unnervingly quiet, a fact which was not lost on Ringmaster. The usual bustle of the people had ceased, leaving him completely alone in the street. The Demons had all gone to their beds for the night, leaving no witnesses to his failure. He stood straight, adjusting his hat, then started down the road toward the Queen's castle."It's not over." he muttered. "Not by a long shot."
He was not one who accepted failure. He would not allow his plans to be destroyed by some foolhardy children. He would return in due time and see to it that they paid for their transgressions. He was a force to be reckoned with, and he would not stand for being mocked in such a manner. Especially by some teenage Demi-Demon and her motley crew of friends. It was humiliating to be bested by such a ragtag group of idiots.
"The next time we meet, things will be different," Ringmaster vowed as he made his way back toward the castle.
He entered the castle with his usual flourish, and found the Queen waiting for him in the throne room. She was sitting on her throne, her eyes blazing with anger.
"My Queen," Ringmaster began, standing straight with his hands behind his back, holding his cane in his right hand.
"Report." Reese ordered, her voice devoid of any emotion.
"As you wished, I went out to retrieve your pets." Ringmaster told her. "But there have been new developments in this task. The Demi-Demons have befriended a group of Elves, and are currently in Mirstone, if they haven't left already. However, I believe that with a little more time-"
"Were you not the one who told me that this task would take you a single day?" Reese stood, her tail swishing from side to side as she glared at him. "Were you not the one who assured me that this would be an easy feat for you? And yet, here you stand before me, telling me that it might take another day?"
"My Queen," Ringmaster remained as still as possible, careful not to provoke her ire. "I was-"
"Silence!" Reese's voice rang out through the chamber, and the walls seemed to tremble at the sheer power behind her words. Even the birds outside ceased their song. "You are an incompetent fool, and I am tired of listening to your excuses! You had one simple task, and you could not even accomplish that!"
She stepped forward, and Ringmaster felt the air in the room grow heavy and thick with her magic. "You are strong, yes? You are powerful?" She hissed, her eyes blazing red as she stared him down. "Then show me! Show me your strength, Ringmaster!"
Ringmaster grinned, bowing gently. "I promise you, my Queen, I will not fail you again."
Reese's eyes narrowed in suspicion. "See that you do not. I will not tolerate any more disappointments from you."
