That was embarrassing.
I had to handle Mallory and her jokes until we, finally, arrived outside a boutique.
It had the words, "Blitzen's Best" on the outside.
The shop belonged to Magnus's dad, Blitzen. Well, we call him Blitz and he's not actually Maggie's dad. He just stayed by his side during a hard time, which was enough for me to consider him as Maggie's dad.
The bell chimed as we pushed open the door and Mallory said,
"It's a good thing I walked in earlier, who knows what else I could've seen?"
I punched her shoulder with a smile and said,
"Yeah, well, it'd be more PG than you and Halfborn, eh?"
That shut her up.
We saw a sign at the register saying that Blitz was out for the day and that all payments will be handled by the cashier. I waved at the cashier and began browsing for clothes.
I found a nice leather-jacket that would fit Maggie and some jeans he could wear instead of the same ones he wears 24/7.
I love the guy, but he seriously needs some fashion tips.
I focused on more things for Maggie before I moved onto my wardrobe. I already had thousands of outfits, but, hey? Can't go wrong with ten more.
I took my pick and found out that Mallory had ditched me and went off somewhere.
Welp, sucks to suck.
I walked to the register and dropped my assortment of clothes onto the table. The cashier stared at it and said with a grin,
"I thought I'd take a break after one more customer."
I laughed,
"I know the owner pretty well, I don't think he'll mind if I help you scan some of this."
After we finished, I stuffed Maggie's things into a bag and mine into another. I told the cashier bye and made my way to the Thinking Cup.
I found a seat and sat down. I plopped the bags onto the one across. I ordered a normal coffee and a bagel for me, paying beforehand.
I got my order and began feasting.
I saw a flash of dark-green and turned.
"Sam?"
There stood my favourite half-sister, tired and walking with a random girl that had short, dark hair and a rhinestone stud.
She smiled.
"Mind if we sit with her? I don't think she'll bother us," She asked the girl with her.
The girl shrugged.
I moved my bags out of the way and Sam sat down across me and the girl beside me.
"I'm tutoring her, you don't mind, right?"
I nodded and took my phone out,
"I'll call Maggie here, he hasn't seen you in a while and I think he misses you, even if he doesn't admit it."
She chuckled and took her notebooks and textbooks out. She began explaining stuff I would've never needed and, probably (definitely), would've made me burn the books.
After a while, I heard footsteps nearing us and felt strong arms wrap around my neck.
"Beantown!"
He grinned,
"Sam! It's been, what? A month!"
He rested his chin on my head and I patted his arm,
"Yeah, yeah, sweet reunion and all, I think you should sit down," I said.
He messed my hair up and took a seat beside me.
Sam looked up at Maggie and said,
"We can catch up later, if it's okay?" She gestured to the books, pencils and notebooks. The girl spoke for the first time since I saw her and said,
"Honestly, I'd rather ditch this. I'm Shel Jayson, what about, you guys?"
"Jayson? Sounds like Jackson," Magnus said, looking at me. I smirked at him and said, "Woah, you think so much about Percy, I'm jealous."
"Hey, don't copy what I did!"
"Ahem!" Shel looked at us and said, "That's cute and all, but, introductions?"
We said our names, but when she heard Maggie's last name, she stared for a moment.
"Chase? I know a gal with Chase as her last name too, that's cool!" She said, smiling.
"What's her first name?" Magnus asked, eyebrows raised.
"Annabeth."
"Ah."
Silence.
"That's my cousin."
I whistled,
"Woo! World's a small place, huh? Uh, you don't know a Percy, by any chance, do you?"
She nodded.
"I wonder..." Shel seemed to be thinking. Then, she put her hand in her pocket and pulled out a golden disk. Wait. A coin.
Not just any coin.
A drachma!
"Dear gods, don't tell me you're a daughter of... Venus, are you?" I said, without thinking.
She laughed and said,
"No, that would be weird, I'm dating her daughter, after all."
I stared.
"Drew?"
"No, Piper."
"Ah, good choice."
We shook hands.
"Is he okay?" Shel pointed at Maggie.
He was blinking rapidly and had a surprised expression on his face. I poked his cheek and he grabbed my hand, he placed it on the table and held onto it, rubbing the top with his thumb.
"Sooo, why is everyone we know connected with the gods? Like, always?" He asked.
Sam shrugged.
Shel looked at Sam and asked, "Are you a demigod?"
"We all are," I answered.
"My mom's Loki, her dad's Loki and his enemy's Loki, Loki everywhere!" I pointed at myself, then at Sam and then, at Maggie. I crossed my legs and smiled at her.
"My dad's Frey, I guess," Magnus answered, shyly.
I let go of his hand and wrapped a arm over his shoulder as he blushed, hard.
"Well, this is a nice meeting," I said.
"Have you seen Piper, lately?" I directed this at Shel.
"Last I saw her, it was on an IM from her latest quest. Honestly, she seemed really tired of it all, especially with Jason," Shel replied with a worried look.
"Ah, yeah, we heard about him," Magnus said, trying to join the conversation.
"This is getting depressing, what're your favourite colors?" I said, Shel seemed really worried and that made me worried. I may have just met her today, but she seemed really nice and cool.
"I like green," I said with a smile.
"That's obvious," Maggie whispered in my ear, tucking a loose strand from my hair into the back of my ear.
I bit the inside of my mouth to stop myself from smiling. It didn't stop the blushes, sadly.
Shel smiled at us knowingly and said,
"I don't really have one, purple's pretty nice though!"
Sam spoke for the first time (in forever☃️☃️☃️) since our conversation had started,
"Isn't this a bit...suspicious?"
"Whaddya mean?" I asked.
"I mean, it just so happens that the person I'm tutoring knows Magnus's cousin and we all know who might have a grudge against Magnus here."
That made sense.
I was about to ask Shel some questions, when I felt a strong heat.
Suddenly, Magnus pushed my body under the table and yelled,
"DUCK!"
I thought to myself, Is he talking about Blitz?
Then the goddamn café blew up.
...
...
...
My head throbbed and I was sure that some blood was dripping down. I heard a high-pitched noise in my ears and I shook my head.
"Magnus?"
I looked around for him.
Everywhere was rubble. If this was a magical attack, it should've been hidden. But, mortals kept screaming and running away.
Terrorism, maybe?
I glanced around and saw blonde locks coated with red.
Gods, no.
Please, no.
Not again.
I tried to stand but I couldn't, my bones seemed to have shattered from the impact of the concrete floor and the explosion. I forced myself to crawl towards him.
I saw that he wasn't too hurt, the blood was mainly from the people surrounding us.
Shit.
Sam.
Shel.
They were nearby and Sam was helping Shel up.
I held Magnus's head and whispered,
"Maggie? You okay?"
He began to glow and I felt the pain in my body fade away. His skin seemed to become less pale.
He coughed out some blood and said,
"I think, cough, I'm okay."
I kissed his forehead and smiled down at him.
Then, came another issue.
"Healing? How interesting."
It was a voice I didn't recognize.
It was dry and reminded me of when I accidentally scraped my garrote against the metal plates that spun the clay around.
Yet, despite the silly similarity, it made me scared. I felt my heart begin to beat slower and slower.
"You fool! Leave them be, we have made our mark, they know we are back."
This was a more feminine voice.
It was pretty and mesmerising. The speaker seemed sleepy.
During this exchange, I didn't look around at them.
I couldn't.
I was frozen and stuck.
I only managed to move my eyes and look down at Magnus.
Finally, I was able to move.
My legs cramped up as I tried to stand and I fell onto Magnus.
"AGHH! Gods, you're heavy. How is that possible?"
Magnus yelped as I smacked the back of his head.
Sam and Shel limped towards us. Magnus placed a hand on both of their shoulders and began to glow.
Shel sighed with relief as her wounds closed up.
But, Sam turned around at her and said,
"Are you really on our side here?"
"Woah, Sam! I don't think she's the bad guy here, I doubt they'd let her go kaboom," I stepped in-between them.
Sam sighed,
"I'm sorry, it's just...Dad visited me."
"What?"
"He came around...I think it was Christmas for you guys. He said something about coming back and getting his revenge."
Shel watched this with a surprised expression.
"Well, maybe, I can help you guys out," She said.
She pulled out the drachma again and smirked.
Forgot to add this lil note. There's barely any info on Shel so I made up a surname for her and a personality. I think a laidback and nice character fits her to contrast Piper's anxious one. Kay, bye.
