POV Izuku
The two men spent most of the journey in silence. Neither managed to engage the other in a conversation lasting more than a minute. Izuku was still struggling with whether it was really a good idea to stay in his house with Katsuki. Despite Kacchan's explanation, he didn't understand what had prompted the alpha to make him this offer.
Izuku looked to the side and watched Katsuki. He looked intently at the road, seemingly unperturbed by anything. Before his abduction, Izuku had never ridden with him, but he would have imagined a ride with Kacchan as his driver very differently.
Izuku chuckled softly at the images that popped into his head.
"What's so funny?" A smile tugged at the corner of Katsuki's mouth and he gave the green-haired man a quick sideways glance.
"I a-admire your composure."
"And that's why you're laughing at me?" the alpha asked with mock indignation.
"N-no, I just never thought a car ride with you would be so r-relaxing."
"How did you imagine it would be? That I'd be speeding through the city at 200 km/h, honking my horn, swearing loudly and occasionally blowing away another car?" Katsuki raised an eyebrow.
Instead of giving an answer, Izuku's grin widened until he could no longer suppress it and laughed out loud.
"So this is exactly how you imagined it," Kacchan stated dryly.
Izuku held his stomach with laughter and could barely catch his breath. The alpha reached out for him. The omega involuntarily fell silent and watched with wide eyes what his counterpart was up to.
Unexpectedly, Katsuki gently wiped a tear of laughter from the corner of his eye with the joint of his index finger. He smiled at the same time.
Izuku watched him open-mouthed.
"I missed your laugh."
The omega turned bright red. He could only take a statement like that the wrong way if he was used to the other man calling him annoying more than once per conversation."Y-you've changed," Izuku muttered.
"That's right."
"How c-come? Is i-it the maturity of a-age?"
Kacchan snorted. "Not really. I've realized a few things over the last two years. It's amazing what a good dose of self-awareness can do. That doesn't mean I no longer feel the desire to blow up annoying idiots. I haven't lost my temper, just my priorities have shifted a bit."
"That s-sounds like you don't think I'm a-annoying anymore." That would be too good to be true ...
"Do you think I would have offered you to move in with me if that was the case?"
"N-no."
They were both silent for a while. Izuku had a question burning on the tip of his tongue that he didn't know if he shall really ask. He would love to know Kacchan's answer to it.
By now, they had left the city center behind them. The apartment blocks and tower blocks had been replaced by smaller apartment buildings and terraced houses in the countryside. They would probably reach their destination soon. Katsuki turned off. They were now approaching the city's villa district. Izuku's eyes widened. When had Kacchan moved here?
Izuku mustered up all his courage and asked the question: "H-Has this got to do with s-self-awareness?"
"What exactly do you mean?" asked Katsuki, putting on the turn signal. They drove along a wide driveway.
"T-That you've changed your mind about me." Izuku's heart was pounding in his throat. His palms became sweaty and he wiped them as inconspicuously as possible on his pants. He almost didn't notice when the car stopped.
It was only when Katsuki crossed his arms on the steering wheel and looked at him attentively that Izuku noticed they had stopped in front of a high wrought-iron gate.
"You could say that." The alpha's voice was deep and somewhat raspy.
Izuku shivered and almost closed his eyes in pleasure at the sound. Instead, he maintained eye contact and didn't turn away from Kacchan's ruby gaze.
Only now did he process the words his counterpart had chosen.
"What e-exactly do you think about me t-today? After e-everything that's happened between us, a-and what I've become, I'd r-really like to know." Izuku was proud of himself for daring to ask. Hopefully that would make their life together easier if he knew where he stood.
Very slowly, Kacchan reached out and cupped Izuku's cheek, stroking his sensitive skin with his thumb. "I plan to show you over the next few weeks."
Oh god...!!!
The blond hero couldn't do something like that! Izuku bit his lower lip. He almost let out a soft groan. Katsuki was incredibly hot at that moment.
This thought frightened Izuku in more ways than one. After everything that had happened, he wouldn't have thought it possible to be attracted to an alpha again. Then again, the alpha in question was Kacchan, which was both terrifying and plausible, considering that Izuku had understood what the feelings he felt towards his former childhood friend meant back in middle school.
Katsuki withdrew his hand carefully so as not to startle the omega. "For now, though, we're home." He pressed the button on a remote control that had been in the driver's door, and the gate in front of them moved aside.
Izuku broke away from the intense eye contact and looked ahead. There was still no sign of Katsuki's house. They drove through the gate. The Alpha pressed the button and waited for the gate to close completely again.
"I should probably call a security service," Katsuki muttered to himself.
"W-why?"
He gave a pained smile. "If you're not back at your apartment by tomorrow - which you won't be - those fucking paparazzi will start looking for you again. Since we were last seen together as I was loading your luggage into my car, it shouldn't be too hard for them to come up with the right solution."
"D-damn it."
Kacchan patted Izuku's knee reassuringly. "Don't worry about it. No one will bother you here. I'll make sure of that."
"B-but I'll pay for the s-security myself. I'm already enough of a burden on you."
"Dream on!" With these words, Katsuki drove on. Katsuki's house appeared behind the next hill and Izuku's jaw dropped once again. There could be no more talk of a house here. They were approaching a medium-sized villa. The architecture was modern, bright colors, lots of glass and an innovative design.
"Close your pretty mouth or flies will get in," Katsuki said with a laugh.
"S-since when...?" Izuku didn't continue, but the blond understood what he was getting at.
"I bought the property about 18 months ago and I've been living here for 10 months. I could hardly wait for the building work to be completed. As my popularity has grown, it has become increasingly difficult for me to find peace and quiet in my apartment. As it doesn't make for good press in the long run if you regularly freak out when you come home because someone is lying in wait for you again - paparazzi, fan or villain, take your pick - I decided to build here. It should meet your standards."
"S-standards?" Izuku said incredulously. "You've just visited me, shortly after I've been s-sitting on an old sofa i-in front of the TV in sweatpants e-eating junk food."
Kacchan grinned cheekily, parked the car in a large garage next to the villa, where two other vehicles were parked, and got out.
Izuku hadn't quite processed it yet before the passenger door opened and Katsuki held out his hand to help him get out. "Come on, I'll show you to your room, nerd."
