POV Katsuki

They had spent the waiting time in a secluded part of the garden with a drink from one of the vending machines. There, the two heroes had remained reasonably undisturbed. One or two people had tried to approach them, but Katsuki had literally growled them all away.

Now they were standing in front of Dr. Yaguchi's office again.

"Are you ready?" Katsuki asked.

"Let's get this over with." This time it was Izuku who reached for the door handle and entered first.

The surgeon's office was bustling with activity. On one side, several X-ray images had been hung in front of illuminated panels. The two orthopaedic surgeons were discussing in front of them. The therapist and Recovery Girl sat on the sofa again in silence and the other three doctors leaned over the large computer screen on Dr. Yaguchi's desk.

"What results have you come to?" Katsuki spared himself a greeting. He didn't have the nerve for pointless, polite banter.

Dr. Yaguchi looked up from the screen. "We have to operate," she replied straightforwardly.

One of the neurologists snorted. What was his name again? Oh yes, Takahashi. "Yesterday would be best. If this malpositioned fracture of the right collarbone is not repaired soon and the bone continues to compress the nerves, there is a risk they will die. That would result in paralysis." The doctor looked up and examined the couple seriously. "The damage to the left arm is not quite as serious and has a little more time to go, but we really can't wait any longer here."

Dr. Watanabe spoke up from the other side of the room and pointed to one of the X-ray images. It showed a bulging area on the humerus. "Unfortunately, this affects the entire arm. We have to break the bone again at this point so that it can grow together straight this time." Her finger ran along the bone. "The healing process is fine here and we don't need to do anything else."

She took a step to the side and pointed to the X-ray image next to it, which showed the ulna and radius of the right forearm. "However, we have several problems here. There are several bone splinters in the tissue that we should remove to eliminate the pain they cause. We also need to correct this," she pointed to a crooked part of the radius, "and this fracture." This time she pointed to a brittle area from which the bone splinters of the ulna had apparently originated. "The other fractures are older and have already healed well."

The doctor looked at them with an unreadable expression. "To be honest, I'm surprised you can still use your arm at all. If we act quickly now, we should be able to keep it functioning and significantly reduce the pain once it's healed."

Katsuki would have liked to tell her to stop babbling and get straight to it instead, but it wasn't his decision to make. Frustrated, he bit his lower lip and remained silent. He didn't notice any measurable emotion from Izuku.

"What do you say?" the alpha asked his mate.

The greenette inhaled audibly. "What's your s-suggestion?"

Dr. Kobayashi spoke up. "We find the fastest possible surgery date and treat the necessary areas in one go. Recovery Girl has kindly agreed to support the healing process as much as possible. Nevertheless, a subsequent hospital stay of one week must be expected, followed by a period of rest at home. That's why we have to take something else into account when scheduling the appointment."

"What?" Izuku asked.

The neurologist was fumbling around and didn't get to the point. Why was the guy having trouble finding words now?

The old heroine giggled. "What the gentleman is afraid to ask is this: When was your last heat, sweetheart?"

Izuku blushed. Now Katsuki understood why the other alpha wouldn't come out with it. Asking an omega about his heat - and in the presence of his alpha - was never a good idea. Not even if it had a medical reason. The blond instinctively pulled up his upper lip and showed his fangs.
