POV Izuku
A hand placed itself on Izuku's back and he pulled up as if he was electrified. "Deku, take it easy. It's just me. Are you okay?" Katsuki asked gently.
Izuku relaxed as soon as he looked into the alpha's warm eyes. "P-Please don't t-touch me, when I d-don't expect it or can't see you," he brought out stuttering, wiping his mouth with the back of his hand before lowering his gaze in shame.
Katsuki stroked a hand through his hair and gave it a quick tug. "Fuck! I'm an idiot. When will I remember this?"
Izuku didn't reply anything, just tried to get his too-rapid breathing back under control.
Just as Kacchan was about to say something else, his cell phone rang. He pulled it out of his pocket, took a quick glance at it, and put it away again after diverting the call to voicemail.
"Let's get you to your apartment first. Then we'll see, okay?"
Izuku nodded tentatively, continuing to avoid Katsuki's gaze. The alpha retrieved the bag from the trunk and they walked side by side to the elevator. At the fingerprint scanner, Izuku paused. Will his data still be stored in the system?
He overcame himself and put his index finger on the small control panel. A lamp lit up green and the elevator began to move. Inside, Katsuki pressed the button for the tenth floor.
There was an awkward silence between them which no one knew how to break. Again, Katsuki's cell phone rang, and this time, too, he pushed the caller away, annoyed. Instead, he typed a short message.
The electronic lock on Izuku's apartment also worked without any problems. Slowly, Izuku entered the apartment. This was his home, which he had not entered in over two years.
The former hero had expected it to be dusty and musty, but the opposite was the case. In the living room, a window was tilted open and on the flat coffee table stood a bouquet of sunflowers next to a card and a small basket with his favorite sweets.
With quick steps, Izuku walked to the table. As soon as he stood in front of it, however, he didn't dare reach for the card. He already suspected who it was from ...
After a moment's hesitation, he overcame his doubts and reached for the starched paper with trembling fingers.
Dear Izuku,
even if others doubted it, we were always sure you were still alive and fighting somewhere. We should be right, which makes us incredibly happy. Take all the time in the world and when you are ready, we would be happy to visit you. You can always contact one of us if you need anything.
We love you!
Your friends Ochako, Tsuyu and Tenya
Tears burned in Izuku's eyes when he discovered the new smartphone next to the candy. His friends hadn't forgotten him or even turned their backs on him, although they had to know where he had been found. According to Katsuki, their agency had also been involved in the cooperation operation.
Izuku cried uncontrollably. Until just now, he had not really been aware of the fear he had had of their rejection.
Suddenly, Izuku felt the presence of an alpha beside him and tensed.
Katsuki glanced at the card. "What's wrong? What is that moon face writing making you cry like that? She's in for a treat the next time I see her." The growl in his voice could be heard even over Izuku's sobs.
"I-It's nothing," he brought out and handed the card to Kacchan. The alpha took it and skimmed the lines. Gradually his features relaxed and his gaze softened. "Lucky for her, she didn't give me a reason to get angry."
The gazes of the two met and locked on each other. Very slowly, Kacchan raised his arms. An inviting expression was on his face. Without thinking about it for long, Izuku threw himself into the comforting embrace. Kacchan ran his hands reassuringly over the omega's back. "It's okay, let it out. I'll stay here as long as you need me."
After a few minutes, the alpha nuzzled Izuku's neck and hairline. "You're safe. I'll take care of you. No one will hurt you."
It was a comforting feeling to have Kacchan by his side, even if he still couldn't make sense of why the other was doing all this for him.
As the tears subsided, Izuku snuggled against the blond hero's strong shoulder. With his ear he lay directly over Kacchan's heart. It beat fast and strong. The rhythm lulled the omega, and he snuggled even tighter against the warm security offered to him.
The tip of his nose grazed Katsuki's neck as he did so. He smelled incredibly good. Izuku wanted to bury his face in that spot and not notice anything else.
Alpha ...
Before Izuku's instincts could completely take over, Katsuki's smartphone rang again. Hastily, Izuku pulled back and wriggled out of the embrace. What had that been about? He glanced uncertainly at his childhood friend. Kacchan's cheeks were flushed. He narrowed his eyes as soon as he noticed Izuku watching him silently, avoiding eye contact.
The phone was still ringing. Cursing, Katsuki pulled the device out of his pocket and answered the call without looking at the display first. "Unless someone is dying, I'm not available today! How many times do I have to say this before it gets into that concrete skull of yours!!!"
Katsuki let the caller have his say and turned pale. "What do you mean?" He looked around searchingly, reached for the remote on the table, and turned on the TV.
