POV Katsuki
Tsukauchi, Sansa and a forensic scientist had barely arrived when Katsuki's cell phone rang. It was the security service. They had found the spot in the footage. "Come in, I want to see it." He hung up and eyed the two detectives. "Izu and that shitty box are in the living room."
Shitty Hair and Pinky were still there. They were giving his mate emotional support. Kiri was also the one who had brought the box into the house. Just as the four of them were about to go into the living room, the doorbell rang again. After a glance at the screen, Katsuki opened the door. It was the employee who had called him to announce the visit earlier and her boss. The alpha nodded to them in greeting and turned away.
Together they went into the living room. Izuku and the other two sat on the armchairs in front of the terrace, where he usually sat with his therapist. He probably felt safest there at the moment.
"Good evening," Tsukauchi greeted and greetings were murmured on all sides. He turned to Katsuki. "What exactly is this about?"
He sighed and walked to the couch in the center of the room and pointed to the floor. "About this."
Police and security gathered around the spot. Tsukauchi put on his gloves and picked up the card. He read it with a furrowed brow. The forensic scientist next to him was already holding out a bag and took it as soon as the detective had finished.
"Are the bracelets used to block a quirk?" Sansa asked.
Katsuki nodded and the forensic scientist started to secure the evidence.
"What can you tell me about the stalker?" Tsukauchi asked.
The alpha looked around the room. "We'll get to that when there's less of a crowd here."
"Do you want to see the footage first, Bakugou-san?" the head of security asked.
"Yes, I want to know how this shit got here."
His coworker held out a tablet to him. The blond alpha pressed play and saw his front steps. Just seconds later, the gift box was there, with no indication of how it had suddenly appeared. He looked at the time stamp: 3:42 pm. "You're sure nothing was done to the recordings?"
"Yes, they definitely haven't been tampered with," the head of security replied.
"May I?" his employee asked.
Katsuki nodded.
She tapped the controller and the fast-forward started. A good two hours later, she let the recording continue at normal speed. Cars appeared at the edge of the screen and his friends gathered in front of the stairs. While they waited to be let in, Kiri noticed the box and lifted it. He could be seen reading the front of the card. Then the door opened and Katsuki let them in.
The head of security spoke up: "We're just checking the fence to see if there's been any intrusion."
"Good," Katsuki replied.
"M-may I see it too?"
The alpha flinched in surprise. He hadn't noticed Izuku had gotten up. Katsuki handed him the tablet after he put the video back where the box had appeared.
Izuku looked at it intently. He tapped the screen several times. Apparently he looked at the spot a few times. "Either a teleportation quirk o-or invisibility which can make n-not only the wearer, but a-also objects carried by him i-invisible," he muttered.
Tsukauchi listened up. "What makes you think that?"
"If it were f-for example, a wind quirk, you would have seen the d-direction from which the box c-came. With invisibility a-as in Hagakure, it would not be p-possible to influence objects as well. Here, as well, you would see s-someone had carried and p-placed the box. The same a-applies to telekinesis. The fact the box is f-first visible after it has been p-placed indicates that it was e-either teleported or, in the c-case of invisibility, the carrier w-withdrew his quirk only after h-he no longer touched it, which is why it n-no longer moved."
The people present looked at him in amazement and Katsuki felt pride swelling inside him. If there was one thing his nerd could do, it was create comprehensive analyses of quirks with just a few clues.
"That sounds plausible and narrows down the circle of suspects," Tsukauchi said.
"However, I don't know the quirk o-of the alpha who sent the box. Maybe he also had h-help."
"It's possible," Sansa replied.
The forensic scientist spoke up. "I'd like to take the fingerprints of everyone who was in contact with the box so I can rule them out. After that, I'll take a look at the landing outside and be done if nothing can be found at the perimeter."
Katsuki, Izuku and Kiri agreed. While the forensic scientist was still at work, the head of security's cell phone rang. "Okay, thank you. We'll be right back out." Turning to Katsuki, he said, "There's no evidence to suggest a forced entry. I'll discuss with my team what further measures we can take. I am very sorry this incident could have happened."
The alpha growled. "Get in touch with me tomorrow. Then we'll discuss what you've come up with."
The two from security and the forensic scientist said their goodbyes. Now only the friends and the two detectives were left in the living room. Katsuki could feel his mate's growing nervousness and exhaustion.
After a brief exchange with Izu, the blond hero took over most of the narration of his experiences and he did his best not to go into too much detail. Occasionally, they would ask Izu a question, who tried to remember as many of the unknown alpha's physical features as possible. He also told them he had discovered the box in the hallway while saying goodbye to their guests. Like Kiri, he had assumed it was a courting gift from his mate and had opened it without further ado.
Katsuki found it difficult to remain calm. Especially because he could sense his mate's fear and unease.
Tsukauchi looked as if he had aged a decade in the last half hour. Sansa looked pale, even if it was hard to tell under the fur.
The older detective cleared his throat. "Now I understand why this box has you so worried. We'll see what we can find out and stay in touch. I'll try to keep it as discreet as possible. No information to the press. If anything comes up again, get in touch with me."
"We will," Katsuki replied.
They said goodbye to each other and Mina and Kiri finally went on their way, having promised Izu and Katsuki they would be there if they needed them.
The alpha had brought everyone to the door. He sat down with his mate. "We should get to bed. You look tired, babe."
Izu only replied with a vague grumble. Katsuki sensed something about their connection that he couldn't place at first. It burned in his chest and almost made it hard to breathe. It was ... guilt and ... self-hatred?
"What's wrong, babe?"
The omega was shaking. "I didn't tell you e-everything. While the others were still h-here, I couldn't."
"Does it have to do with the stalker?"
Izuku nodded wordlessly.
"Tell me about it. I'm listening to you."
"I'm s-scared."
Katsuki sat down by him and pulled him into a hug. "I'm sorry I couldn't protect you today like I swore I would. I'll do everything in my power to keep that guy away from you."
"That's not what I mean. I know you've done that so far." Izuku sounded like he was fighting tears again.
The alpha was confused. Did his mate doubt him? "What do you mean, so far?"
"You w-will leave me when y-you know it," the omega muttered. Katsuki wanted to object, but he didn't get the chance. "I'm a terrible omega a-and you won't want m-me anymore."
That was too much. "Babe, you mustn't even think that," Katsuki countered. "I love you. That's not going to change."
Izuku looked up at him. There were unshed tears in his emerald eyes. "But I ha-have ... killed my own child... W-what kind of omega does that?"
