EP 21 Dunk's family

Joong woke up to the sound of the door opening. Phuwin and Pond had come in with Boun. Phuwin had carried a basin of water with two face towel. He had passed one to Joong while he had helped to care for Dunk. Pond had helped Boun to lay the food on the table. 

"You better fuel up before the whole clan arrives." Pond said. Joong had went over to where Pond was after wiping his face. 

"The whole clan?" Joong asked as he picked up a pair of chopsticks.

"err dee (TH: yeah). Dunk's family is huge." Pond commented.

True to his words, Joong saw a flight of dragons heading towards their house when he was out at the lawn. They transformed back to their human form once they reach the front door. All of them landing gracefully. He recognized Dunk's third brother but the rest of them were foreign to him. Dunk's sisters had not only mothered Dunk but Joong as well. Joong began to understand why Dunk preferred the life of a wanderer. It was really chaotic with all of his siblings around. It was only when Dunk's eldest brother, Win snapped his fingers that they started to quiet down. Joong could see the pods that they were in as Dunk's eldest brother brought structure to the group with just a stare. With a family as big as his, it was only natural that they formed they own smaller groups. He wondered which group did Dunk belong to. 

"Bai Loong doesn't belong to any pods. He weaves in and out easily. He doesn't favour one over the other. That's why he's the favourite among all the siblings." Boss said as he munched on some peanut that he offered to Joong. Joong thanked him for it.

"He doesn't talk much about us, does he? So typical of him" Joong smiled at Boss' assessment of Dunk. It seemed that his third brother knows him well despite the huge age gap between them. It true though, Dunk hardly mentioned about his family. He only know that he was the 9th child among the 12 of them. Dunk's mother had passed on early and it was his father that shouldered the family. He never did remarry after nor did he take in any concubine which would be normal for royalty. His family was truly unconventional for a royal bloodline now that Joong thought of it. 

Boss supplied Joong with various stories about Dunk, especially the mischief that they did when they were young. When Dunk's other siblings caught on, they started supplying him with their own stories with Dunk. They had all ended in laughter. Joong had tears in his eyes from it. He couldn't believe some of the things he did but yet it was so him. He could see how fond they were of him. He was the peace maker in the family. The one who blended well in any scenario. The mischievous one who aim to make them laugh. But he was also the one who stood by anyone in trouble. He would take the heat for them without a care on how his father may view him. It was only when the family started falling apart that he wandered out in the world to find his own peace. 

Dunk's siblings had accepted Joong easily. They had not blamed him for the hardship that Dunk went through. They say it's typical of Dunk. He shouldered more than he should. They say that if they were to name the person who is most like their father among the 12 of them, it would be Dunk. Even his eldest brother, Win agreed. He is loyal to a fault. His love knows no bound. 

They had dispersed when evening came. They promise to visit again in smaller groups the next round, rotating until Dunk wakes up. Boss had mentioned that he had not seen his siblings this united for millenniums. He couldn't believe when his father had called back his siblings that were exiled in the ordeal that Dunk went through. It was mind blowing to him. Joong smiled at the news. 

He had told Dunk all that transpired that night as he got ready for bed. He was sure that he would be proud and happy that his family is back together again. Joong slept beside Dunk with a smile that night.

A/N: A lil bit more on Dunk as Bai Loong. I thought it will be interesting to look into Dunk's family dynamic in this series since he is still kinda in a coma.
