Joong was surprised to see Dunk's father at the door the next morning. He had held him up when he wanted to bow in courtesy.

"You are my son's mate. There really is no such need. We are family after all." He said. There was an awkward silence after as the King of the East sat by Dunk's bed. His father held his hand in his. He swept his hair away and wet the towel when Phuwin brought the basin of fresh water. He wiped his face before he continued on to wipe his hand.

"I don't know when was the last time I did this for him. He really does look so much like his mother." Joong saw through the heartache that the king felt for losing his mate. The king told of his perspective of his child, the quiet observant son who slowly lost the mischief and joyfulness of his youth. The son who quietly left to wander out on his own when the family broke apart. The son who reminded him that it wasn't him who lost his mate but his children had lost their mother and in his grief, they had lost their father too. He had tried to mend his relationship with his children but he wondered if it was too late for him and Dunk.

"It's never too late, your majesty. Bai Loong will survive this. I am sure he looks forward to rebuilding his relationship with his father." The king nodded.

"I'm sure your father bears the same hope as me." He said as he kissed Dunk on the forehead before he left the room. Joong saw him quietly acknowledging the presence of his father at the lawn of the house. Joong breath hitched at the sight of his father. He didn't know what to say to him. They hadn't met since the scandal at the wedding. His father looked as lost as him. He took a deep breath and decided to brave it.

"Father." He bowed as he greeted him. The King of the North nodded his head in acknowledgement.

"how... how is he doing?" It was the first time he heard the uncertainty in his father's voice.

"The Shadow King said that he had passed the critical period. All we have to do is wait for him to wake up. His body had been poisoned for too long, it needs time to catch up." His father nodded solemnly. There was a moment of silence that even Joong didn't know how to breech. He had declared his death two millennium ago after all. Just as he was about to return to Dunk, he heard his father's voice.

"I'm sorry, son. I'm sorry for all the misery that I've caused you." His father said quietly. Joong turned to face his father.

"I... I do not object your relationship with Prince Dunk if he brings you happiness." he continued. Joong rushed towards his father and hugged him.

"I'm sorry. I love you, son. I love you." The King of the North tightened his hold on Joong as both of them teared. Their broken relationship healed through a single confession.
