❝ Furina and Neuvillette kiss in her dreams, little does she know she's also kissing the real one. ❞

ʚ ʚ ʚ

Furina was an avid dreamer. Every night, she would wander into the realm of dreams, most messy and nonsensical - she was in one place and suddenly appeared in another! Familiar faces, or invented. Then, too, she didn't remember beyond how confusing it was (except, of course, the nightmares).

But this was no nightmare. Neuvillette was the protagonist of her witticisms that day. Logical! For it was one of those days when she had asked him to sleep with her. Nothing kept her warmer in winter than the arms of her beloved Iudex. But they weren't lovers or anything! If it wasn't strange to sleep together , it was because... They had grown accustomed to it in those 400 years side by side.

The two of them were sitting on a hill, the colours of the sunset uniquely adorning the scene. Shades of orange reflected on Neuvillette's clothes and his serious, docile face. A gentle breeze ruffled his fringe. Furina, meanwhile, was absently combing his long hair with her fingers. Her cheeks were adorned with a subtle blush as she admired his beautiful face.

Furina had eyes, Neuvillette was handsome. Ever since she first saw him, she couldn't help but think about it. Perhaps the blue highlights, make-up and his clothes were her inventions, but... He wasn't wearing them now. Two of them, at least.

Rolled-up shirt, waistcoat, trousers. Maybe Neuvillette had no problem admiring the scenery, but she only had eyes for him and... on the hand over hers. His fingers were so long they covered her hand and a little more grass. Lawn tickled her gently.

"Feeling more rested already, Neuvi?"

His faint smile caused her heartbeat to jump. Unconsciously, she stroked his cheek and cheekbone with her thumb now. She almost felt him shiver.

"Indeed, yes. I have to grant you that you were right. If I had spent all day surrounded by paperwork, I would have missed this beautiful sunset with you. No matter all the times I see it, it will always be breathtaking to see how the colours hover over our nation and you."

Furina couldn't help but smile at the last part. Alas, she was blushing. Did he just call her breathtaking? No, Fontaine. Of course. It had to have been that, yes .

"Well, I'm much more breathtaking than a sunset." She began very dignified.

Only to quieten down, feeling her pulse shoot up at a simple: "I completely agree."

Everything that came out of his mouth was sincerity, dream or not.

Sometimes, she felt the urge to kiss that beautiful face. What's more, she pulled her hand away, giving him one on the cheek. Was that normal? No, but neither was sleeping with his beloved judge. Was it? Nor dreaming she was with him without any of the surrounding chaos. Furina couldn't afford a relationship with him beyond the one they had, but... It was inevitable to want to taste his lips.

Excusing in curiosity, stressing it was a human tradition and not of beings like them. And also, it was her imagination! It would be from her archon to her right hand, from...

Cheeks aflame, heart unbridled. Neuvillette had just pressed his lips against her again. It felt so real she wondered if he gave it in real life. What would it be like? Still, she didn't want to take the plunge herself either.

Yes, she would request something.

"Kiss me." She mused, waiting for her judge to respond. Hopefully, it would be enough to make his dream self listen. After a confused blink, he seemed ready to repeat himself earlier. Furina squeezed his cheek, breathing shakily. She looked down. They were so close. "On the lips."

Neuvillette looked like a coloured dragon, no more hydro in his reddish face. For a reptile's pupils, they dilated like a hunter admiring his prey. "Are you sure, Lady Furina?"

"Here I am free to do as I please." She said to herself. And it was true - she could snog Neuvillette all she wanted if she didn't remember. It didn't matter!

Right?

It was as if his lips were really pressing against hers. Furina felt a human tingle inside. Neuvillette was as gentle as she had imagined, perhaps... Fantasised, once upon a time.

And, as was her fantasy, she moved her lips against his again. Patiently, for she would have time to wake up the next day. At first, it was only leisurely brushes, the two of them experiencing in their way the intimate gestures they shared. With each doubt that flared up inside her, Neuvillette gently silenced it in such a simple gesture.

Furina shuddered at the feel of his tongue on her lips. After a few awkward and slightly rough attempts, they returned to the slow rhythm they had built before.

The questions came back to her - Not about the morality of the matter, it's just... The fine line between fiction and reality was practically non-existent. If her beloved judge were kissing her now, it would feel just as real, for sure. Furina didn't want to wake up, but she wasn't letting go of that unease either. Those wet lips, that tongue taking hold of hers....

The archon opened her eyes softly without pausing. She no longer felt the breeze or the orange sunlight. Besides, it was as if she was... Lying down.

Her eyes opened wide as if they were about to pop out of their sockets. And so real it was! Making out with Neuvillette, asleep? Asleep and blushing. She pulled away from his face at once, and so it seemed. Furina breathed heavily, her heart pounding a mile a minute.

"Neuvillette..."

Was he awake? Was he sleeping? Was he going to be angry with her for kissing him? No, but he was kissing her back? Furina nibbled on her lip and decided to wake him up without thinking about the consequences. She gently moved him by the shoulders, which helped greatly. He blinked almost as confusedly as when she requested to kiss her. Realising who he was with, he opened his mouth softly.

"Have you...?" He cleared his throat, looking at her as he had in the dream. "...had a nightmare, Furina?"

"Nope! But we were making out, oh! Accidentally in real life, too." She wanted to spurt out. However, she said instead: "No... What were you dreaming about?"

"..." That silence was killing her. "There was a... Cliff at sunset." Furina stood up with a jolt, immediately getting out of bed. "Furina?"

"Yes, sorry, it's just.... I'm going to the bathroom! You keep telling."

She immediately locked herself behind the door, staring at her reflection in the mirror over the sink, fingers brushing her lips. If Neuvillette didn't bring it up, neither would she. She squeezed the ends of it and took a shaky breath. She had to calm down and get on with her day - she shouldn't focus on...

"We were both admiring the sights of Fontaine." He heard on the other side of the door.

Why? If he dared to say that too....

"Perhaps we could go this afternoon if you have time to spare," Neuvillette added.

Furina covered her face with both hands and looked at the door between her fingers. She took a breath, pulling herself together. It was difficult for her when she had the dream running through her head over, and over again.

"I don't know - I have to look at my schedule."

With any luck, she'd be busy (and if not, she'd make sure she was). Yes! She...

"It says here you're free."

Please, may the earth swallow her.
