Chapter 20:
Heaven and I get up quickly and practically run to the dining room where I know my parents are seated. "Yes, Ma'am?" I ask sitting in the chair across from them.
My mother doesn't look very happy. Her face is set in the most serious one I have ever seen making me shake a little because shes never this serious. She has her arms folded over the table and her backs as straight as a board. My father looks the same way and I sigh because my fathers a jokester nothing is serious to him. But when he feels my eyes on him he gives me a wink letting me know he believes me.
Heaven slides in beside me with the same determined face on as earlier making me smile a little on the inside because shes not gonna let me down if daddy cant convince momma.
Momma looks at me for a minute sharply before she she says in a demanding tone "Do you mind explaining to me why you stayed over at Deans house and why you didn't answer when we called. Multiple times might I add."
"Dean and I were watching movies and we fell asleep." I say simply because that's all there is to tell. Nothing else really happened.
"Really?" she says unbelieving me. "So why do you have his clothes on?"
Looking down I purse my lips because I had forgot that I had his clothes on but I have nothing to hide so why change. "He picked me up as he was coming home from work we hugged and my dress got grease all over it. I had to take a shower to get the grease off of me. Since I had to trash my dress he gave me some of his clothes."
Mom doesn't look sold at all and i swore if my mouth could it would hit the floor it would be in hell by now. "Tell me the truth Evangeline."
As calmly as possible i say "That is the truth he picked me up and told me he loved me. I was so happy that i forgot he was disgusting and i hugged the life out of him ruining my outfit. I needed a shower so i took one and he gave me some of his clothes. I was tired so i fell asleep while the movie was playing. Why is that so hard to believe? I would never lie and you have never questioned me before so whats changed." by the end of my questioning i start to get angry because im an adult i may still be in high school but not for long. I may still live under their roof but i can move out at anytime being eighteen allows you to do that.
I don't want to do that because i love living with my parents but i don't know how much more pointing fingers i can take. I'm sticking to God and im not ruining it with him no matter who wants me to.
"He said he loved you?" Heaven asks gushing and i turn to her with a huge smile on my face nodding.
"Why ddint you leave when you felt tired?" Momma asks not moved that he said he loves me.
Heaven opens her mouth t speak and i shake my head but she continues anyways. "I couldn't sleep Thursday night so i made her stay up with me all night. She only got two hours of sleep before she had to go to sleep and when she come home after school she was up with me again so she was going to Deans on only two hours of sleep."
"With two hours of sleep Ellen anyone would fall asleep in a dark room with a boring movie on." daddy says finally coming to my defense. Momma looks over at him with a challenging look and he raises his hands in the air. "I'm just saying honey remember that time you came over to cook me dinner and after you were finished we sat down to watch the game. You fell asleep and did your parents go down your throat?" he asks her and i humph because shes accusing me when she did the same thing as me.
"They didn't because they trusted me." she says matter o factly.
I bite my bottom lip hard to stop it from wobbling. "So you don't trust me?" i ask quietly and daddy looks over at me with his eyes wide.
