JEFF POV

Two weeks have passed. My headaches are finally gone, but for the last fourteen days, I’ve had the same recurring dream: a massive wolf in the night. In last night’s dream, the wolf actually let me lay against its side. It felt like resting on a thick, furry wool carpet—so warm and comfortable. We just watched the moon and the stars together. These dreams feel so vivid that I can almost still feel the texture of the fur on my fingertips when I wake up.

...

Today, the latest issue of Vogue Magazine came out. I was anxious to see the photos and the interview. They gave me a full-page spread for the lead photo, and ten more pages were filled with shots from the session and the interview. It looks incredible. I flipped to the last page to check the credits.

"Bible Wichapas Sumettikul-Midhunter. Wow, that’s a long name. Midhunter? Is he mixed?" I wondered aloud. He’s incredibly handsome, but he doesn't necessarily look like he has foreign blood.

Another question kept nagging at me. In every dream, I hear a voice—I’m certain it’s the wolf speaking to me. It sounds so familiar, soft and polite, but I can’t quite place where I’ve heard it before.

Since I have a completely clear schedule today and I’ve actually been sleeping well lately, I didn't want to just lounge in bed. I threw on a simple tee, a fishing hat, and black glasses, and headed to the supermarket near my house. It’s been a long time since I went out to buy my own groceries; usually, I just use a delivery service or my mom drops off frozen food for me.

I wandered the aisles aimlessly because I’d forgotten to make a list. I eventually picked out some fruit, cereal, milk, bread, and chicken salami. I’m not much of a cook, so I stick to things that are easy to prepare. As I reached the counter to pay, a voice spoke up from behind me.

"Miss, let me pay for his items along with mine."

The voice was unmistakable.

"Bible? Uh, I mean Ben! No, it’s okay, let me pay," I insisted, turning around.

"Hi, Jeff. You’re only buying a few things; it's nothing. Let me get this for you, okay?"

"Okay... thank you."

I watched him load his items onto the belt. "Wow, you’re buying a lot of groceries, Ben. Do you live around here?"

"I’m free today and I realized my pantry was empty, so I wanted to stock up and cook something fresh. This supermarket usually has everything I need, even if it's a bit of a drive."

"You cook? That’s impressive. Where do you live?"

"Phra Pradaeng."

"But... that’s thirty minutes from here!"

"It’s not so far for me," he smiled. "Are you free today? No shows?"

"I’m completely free today and tomorrow. Honestly, I’m hungry, but my fridge is empty."

"Well, I was going to head home to cook. If you don't mind the drive... would you like to join me?"

"But I have all these groceries," I said, gesturing to my bags. "And I have my own car here."

"No problem."

Ben suggested I follow him in my car back to his place after I dropped my perishable groceries off at my house quickly.

"Ready to go, Jeff?"

"Yup."

"Let's go."

I felt a wave of nervousness as I followed his Jeep. I wasn't sure why my heart was racing.
