I think of you.
I think of what I want to get you

I think of how I will ask you
to be my valentine.
Because there's no one I'd rather ask.
But this time you said no.
10 I didn't realize
you already had a valentine.
Dear Ex-Lover,
I'm sorry I couldn't buy you things
as expensive as what he bought you.
15 I'm sorry I couldn't get you as many flowers
as he got you.
But I will always love you more.
He could take you to nice places.
He could buy you nice things.
20 He could tell you pretty lies.
But he wouldn't dare think
to sputter out "I love you."
Dear Stranger,
I remember what fun we had.
25 I remember every Valentine's Day.
But I've forgetten why I loved you.
You were my favorite.
Now I hardly recognize you.
I hope he buys you raccoon stuffed animals.
30 I remember they're your favorite.
I hope he plays with your hair.
I remember how much you love that.
Most of all I hope he tells you
Happy Valentine's Day.
35 Because that's what I would do.
And I loved you.
