The depths of the cave through which Chuck had led them underwater to safety had been very hard to traverse, especially for Alex, whose lungs were reaching their limit. It was real agony, but Yuki had made every effort to keep him in it for as little time as possible.
However, the worst was yet to come when they left through the hot springs, to the place where a horde of controlled magical creatures was waiting to finish them off immediately.
"Let's try to draw as little attention as possible," she whispered to the girl, since they couldn't afford to be late.
She nodded without saying a word, while her interlocutor placed Alex on his back again.
His gaze looked back, cautious, careful not to find anyone through either of the two possible paths.
"Are you kidding me?," he said, surprised, continuing to speak in a low voice, while he observed how they had located them sooner than he had thought, in a matter of just a few minutes after getting out of the water. From the darkness at the bottom of one of the entrances that the light from the water dome above their heads was unable to illuminate, the arm of a creature appeared that made the floor and ceiling tremble, especially the piece that easily shattered when it held on to help himself cross the threshold.
"It's the first time I've seen one..." the girl admitted.
She swallowed hard as she watched his body protrude completely, head touching the very high ceilings of the cave.
"Me too..."
With his other hand, the humanoid form made the ground shake with the drag of a gigantic elongated rock that held in this.
"If that creature hits us..." she said, frightened.
"Why are everything problems?" He immediately complained to himself, completely disgusted with the situation that was presented to them one after another.
As quickly as possible, he tensed his arms and legs, prepared to begin his escape, which only lasted a few meters. The roar behind his feet caused by the throwing of the large rock destroyed everything around him, lifting the ground and making not only the ground, but also themselves, fly into the air. He had clung enormously to the body he carried on his shoulder, however, he could not keep it attached, flying with everything, only being able to stop after a painful drag through all that rubble.
Despite the pain and the fact that he landed quite far away, he didn't stop him from getting back up and this time concentrating all his power on his legs so he could reach out and grab Alex in one go.
He knew that all that movement did no good to the poison that ran through his veins, which helped it reach his heart much faster. But all those stones that he encountered along the way had become a tedious obstacle that he was either forced to avoid or jump over, Alex paying for it.
"Damn rocks, it only make everything worse!" he cursed to himself as he heard Alex groan with every jolt he put his feet back on the ground.
"What rocks are you referring to...?" Alex asked barely in his ear, keeping her head firmly on his shoulder for comfort.
Out of the corner of his eyes, he contemplated one last jump to avoid one of the many rocks again before stopping his path.
"But what the hell are you doing?!" The girl shouted "It's getting closer!"
Alex's words made him stop and think. Thinking about those simple words he had said innocently answering a strange question he had asked, more to express his annoyance than to seek an answer. But he was right.
The roar behind him sounded again, he had already reached them, but this time avoiding being moved by the wave it caused with every step he took, despite the pressure it exerted on their bodies.
