Louis was currently finishing wrapping the last of Cassie's presents at the kitchen island, it's taking him longer than normal on the account of his boyfriend is standing in front of him shaking his hips as he flips pancakes.
It's the morning of her birthday, so the boys go up earlier together to make her a delicious pancake breakfast. Harry spent the night wanting to be there for the early morning celebration just the trio.
He put the last piece of tape on her present and moves to slide off of the stool. He creeps behind Harry who is obliviously humming to himself. As he reaches the taller lad he snakes his hands around Harry's waist and breaths in his scent.
"Mmm smells good." Louis hums. Harry leans back into Louis touch. "They will be ready soon love and we can go wake her." Harry chuckles. Louis kisses Harry's back in response staying there for a few moments longer allowing himself to enjoy the only alone time they are going to have until later tonight.
"I'm going to go move her presents to the study so she can't peak at them until later this afternoon." Louis says releasing his grip from the curly haired lad.
"Sounds good babe. This is the last three to be cooked and then I am done." Harry hums flipping the pancakes to show a golden brown. "Perfect." Louis says picking up the gifts and heading towards the study.
He places them all in the corner, picking up the blanket that they have been hiding under the past couple days and throwing it over the wrapped gifts for added security. As he turns to leave his eyes catch a photo on his desk of him and 1 year old Cassie. They were are the park in Donny, it was one of the times that he went to visit his mum.
He remembers that day so vividly, It was two days after Emmy left. Louis had spent the first day crying and holding Cassie in his arms. He did the bare minimum for himself, only making sure that Cassie was fed and changed.
His mom had called him that night as she frequently did, he sobbed on the phone to her, breaking down about everything that was going on with Emmy. She listened to him go on about how he couldn't do this alone.
She let him vent, and say all the things he needed to say, before she told him to pack a bag and come stay with her for a few days until he was able to get back on his feet. Louis being the stubborn person he is protested and said that he didn't want to burden her with this.
It was when she threatened to drive down and bring them home herself when we finally agreed. They settled on him leaving in the morning after he got some sleep. She stayed with him on the phone until he fell asleep on the the mattress he brought into Cassie's room. He wanted to stay close to her.
He kept his promise to his mom and he drove up the next day in late morning. That first day he arrived was spent sitting on his childhood couch with his siblings while his mother looked after Cassie for the majority of the day. Giving Louis the chance to grieve the loss of the life he thought he was going to have for his daughter.
The next afternoon his mom had forced him to go to the park with her and his siblings, saying that he needed to get some fresh air and out of his head. He didn't know it at the time, but that moment was the change in everything for him.
He had spent that afternoon watching his daughter play in the sand, giggling as her aunties made silly faces at her. He watched her slide down the slide in Lottie's arms grinning the whole way down.
His mom took the picture of him and Cassie standing on top of the play structure, Cassie in Louis arms looking up at him and he pointed to the bird in the tree. It was such a simple day, there wasn't a significant event, that made everything click for him. It was when his mom showed him that picture 3 days later, where he saw his daughter looking up at him as if he hung the stars in the sky, he knew that he could do this, he would do this, whatever it took to raise his little girl. She was his world and he was hers.
