Unfortunately, Scott had to let go of Wallace while he was driving for "safety reasons" or whatever, but they were still holding hands.Scott was looking out the window, admiring the dreary winter day. When he noticed they passed the exit that led to their neighborhood.
Confused, Scott looked over at Wallace.
Wallace could see Scott looking at him from his peripheral vision, not looking back at him, he responded. "I didn't want to go home."
"Well, why didn't we stay at the rink?"
"...I don't know."
There was a general uneasy feeling in the air that Scott desperately wanted to get rid of. But he didn't know how to go about doing said thing.
"...So, what's your favorite color?"
Wallace laughed softly.
"Where did that come from?"
Scott shrugged.
"Hm, I'm not sure actually. I don't think I ever sat down and thought about it like that."
Wallace looked over at Scott.
"I do like orange though."
"That's a good color."
Wallace smiled and kept driving.
After several random turns and maybe an hour of comfortable silence, They arrived at a field.
"Where are we?" Scott asked.
"Not sure, but it looks nice."
Scott hummed in agreement.
"C'mon!"
Wallace got out of the car and went to Scott's door.
"Ladies first."
Scott playfully rolled his eyes and put on his coat. He followed Wallace farther and farther until the car was only a spec in the distance.
Wallace put his sweater on the ground for the both of them to sit on.
"Won't you be cold?"
"I'll be okay."
"It's snowing though. Are you sure?"
"Mhm."
Scott was still worried. He might as well try and help, right?
He wrapped his arms around Wallace in a sort of side hug.
"Hey, Scott?"
"Yeah?"
"...Actually, nevermind."
"No wait- you can just say that and not tell me!"
"No really- it's nothing.
"Wallace!" he whined.
"Fine! So, what- uhm."
"What did you mean back at the skating rink?"Scott paused.
"What do you mean?"
Oh god, he's gonna have to repeat it, isn't he?
"So- you uh- you said you wished I was a girl. And I wanted to know what you meant by that."
"What other way could it possibly be taken? I just wish you were a girl."
"I know, but, why?"
Scott sighed and stopped looking at Wallace.
"I see all these couples out and about. Like, doing cute stuff. And I just kinda wish that could be us, y'know?"
"Wait wait wait- what??"
"Scott you do realize that you basically confessed, right?"Scott's face flushed as he tried to avoid eye contact once more.
"No I didn't. I'm not gay."
"That seemed pretty gay. And trust me, I know gay when I see it."
"No! Wallace!" Scott abruptly stood up.
"I don't like you like that!""But you just said you wished we could be a couple!"
"I like your personality! Not you!"
"How does that make sense???"
"How does it not?? Wallace, I'm straight! If a girl who acted and looked like you asked me out, I'd say yes. If you asked me out, I'd say no. Simple as that!"
"Wait- looked like me?? You just said it was just personality!"
"Oh my god! Just drop it! I was being stupid!"
"No!" Wallace stood up.
"I can't just drop something like this!""Why? Do you like me or something??"
Wallace went silent.
Scott took a step back.
"Do you?""..."
"Is this why you were moping at the rink?"
"..."
"Say something!"
"...I think we should just go home.
