" it's a lifestyle, sweetheart. "
—CELENA WILSON COULDN'T BREATH. Gasping for the oxygen that evades her, she stares in horror as the nightmares inside her room come alive. They crawl toward, malicious grins present on their faces, with sharp teeth stained yellow and crimson. Her mind was splitting, and for the first time, she wondered if this is what the gods felt like with their Greek-Roman split.
Come back to us, they whisper in the dark.
You belong to us, they cackle beside her trembling form.
"No!" Celena wanted to scream. She wanted to stab the monsters with her spear. She wanted to find that confidence in herself that was lost in that horrid place. She wanted to be brave again. She wanted to not have these monsters plaguing her.
She wanted to be mortal again.
But all of the words she wanted to say died on her tongue, and the monsters crept forward with their hands outreached. Their sharp talons glinted underneath the moonlight, and Celena felt her heart drop to her stomach.
"Please..." Her voice was meek, shaking at the sight of the twisted creatures crawling up her bed. "No..."
They didn't respond as they loomed over her stiff form. And without warning, they sunk their gnarled teeth into her body, and Celena let out a bloodcurdling scream as they dragged her back to the depths of a burning Tartarus.
It was only when she felt the burns when Celena's eyes shot open.
She gasped, sitting up on the bed. Celena pressed her hand against her chest, trying to calm her racing heart. From the window, the moon's light streamed through, landing on her hands, illuminating the heavy burn marks. Celena's breath hitched, and she couldn't swallow down the lump in her throat as she watched her marred skin stitch itself back together. Soon, it was like nothing happened to her.
Like she hadn't had the dream of being dragged back to a flaming Tartarus.
Celena rolled out of her bed, wincing slightly when her feet touched the cold ground. She checked the time beside her bed: 2:10 AM. Of course, why wouldn't she wake up at the ungodly hour?
Breathing in deeply, Celena limped out of her room, her hand toying with her bracelet. Ever since she gave Jason her moon phases bracelet, her spear bracelet was the only connection she had to Natalie.
