As we walk down the boarding bridge, I check the two boarding passes we were given. I notice that the seats aren't next to each other, and furthermore, it's in economy class. Absolutely not, we are the star guests! No one may be aware of it, but that doesn't mean that we don't deserve the best of the best. Besides, I want to make Athena's first flight extra special.
I tuck the boarding passes back in my pocket, and seek out the VIP seats. They are at the very front of the plane and are almost more like small suites than just regular seating. I have a quick glance over and then direct Athena over to the right side of the plane where I spot two free booths connected to each other.
I notice how Athena's jaw almost drops to the floor, as she studies the luxurious suite equipped with a TV, a chair that converts to a bed, and a privacy screen, just to mention a few of its many perks. I smirk as she looks up at me, still with wide eyes.
"Only the best for you," I shrug and then I gesture for her to pick a seat. She blinks a couple of times and then chooses the one closest to the window. She sits down in the soft seat, but just before I get to sit down next to her, a man taps me on the shoulder. I turn around and look down at the old man, who looks a bit displeased.
"Excuse me, I think you may have taken our seats," he says, as an older lady walks up behind him, and then stops when she sees me. She leans to the side and spots Athena, and then her look turns sour as well. Great, it's always more difficult to mind-control two individuals at the same time. I clear my throat and bend my head to crack my neck, before trying to force eye contact with both of them at the same time.
"We agree to switch seats. We will trade boarding passes and you will leave without further incident." After a second, I see the wife snap out of the trance and then exclaim,
"No, we will not!" in a very offended tone. She then slaps her husband on the shoulder, effectively breaking him out of my grasp as well.
"Gerald! Do something!" she shrills. I notice some of the passengers around us peek up to see the action. I scramble my mind for a solution. It's evident that I have lost a big portion of my powers - normally it would never go this bad, I certainly have never experienced a subject straight up reject and oppose my persuasive maneuvers. I notice a stewardess approach us from the cockpit, and I get an idea. I walk towards her, so I have a chance to convince her without the elderly couple interfering.
"You will let my travel companion and I switch seats with those two back there, or else you will threaten to kick them off the flight," I say as soon as I have trapped her eyes with mine and then I hand over our boarding passes to her. She blinks a couple of times, before looking over my shoulder at the elderly couple.
"If you two would please follow me," she says in a friendly tone, as she approaches them, and guides them farther down the aisle towards the seats in the back. I hear the old woman pipe up about how they have paid a lot of money for those seats, and that they are loyal customers, and so on. Luckily they don't fight back aside from that.
I plop down heavily beside Athena and pinch the inner corners of my eyes with my thumb and forefinger. I sigh and feel Athena put a hand on my back.
"You okay?" she asks and lowers her head, searching for my eyes. I let my hand fall away and take a deep breath before forcing an unbothered expression.
"Yeah, everything is fine. It's just been a long day," I answer, not wanting her to know how much it actually worries me, that I have lost such huge a percentage of my powers. If I hadn't been lucky just now, and those two had instead been humans in their prime age, we would have been fucked. My mind tricks don't mean shit when there are other people around me to see through the games - they could always attack us. And yeah, I'm still supernaturally strong and fast, and I could probably kill this entire plane before any serious harm is done to us, but then institutions of both the supernatural and the human world would start a man-hunt for us. You can't just go around and do whatever you please - I would even bet my ass, that there are more laws regarding the conduct of supernaturals than there are for humans. Honestly, I think that is a huge load of bull - why do we, the superior race, have to bend in the dust for humans?
I take another deep breath, forcing myself to reject those thoughts from my mind. As much as I hate to live in the past, I despise to live in the what-if world even more. I can't use any of these thoughts for anything constructive, so I might as well not worry about it. In a coincidence of perfect timing, the stewardess returns and hands me the boarding passes of the elderly couple.
"Here you go, sir. Anything else I might assist you with?" she asks in an overly sweet voice, making her sound way too eager to help me. I look over at Athena and note her slender frame.
"Yeah, could we have a look at your menu?" I ask, not bothering with the mind games right now, this is just basic customer service.
"Of course," she says and smirks, before bending over me slowly and grabbing a little folder from a pocket on the other side of my seat. I feel one of her breasts gently swipe over my arm at the motion. Her neck is exposed right in front of my face, and I have to swallow hard and bite my tongue to stop myself from being tempted to bite her. I frantically look over at Athena, to try and distract myself, and see how she stares daggers into the stewardess, who is probably taunting Athena by the look on her face.
As the woman pulls back slightly and looks intently into my eyes, waving the menu between two fingers in front of my face, I see that she is about to say something. Before she does, however, she is stopped by Athena who shoots her hand out between us, pulling me by the chin towards her and kissing me hungrily and possesively.
